Ho Chi Minh City plans to relocate electricity, water, and telecommunications facilities to prepare the construction site for Metro Line 2 project in nearly two years, at a cost of about VND1,000 billion.
At the groundbreaking ceremony for the relocation of technical infrastructure for Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) on the morning of June 22, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hien, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR - investor), said that the relocation will help the city have a clean land to construct the station and tunnel in early 2025.

According to the investor, the relocation of the works will be carried out in 20 months, at 9 underground stations, two open-cut sections, and one elevated station of the metro line. The implementation process will be carried out in two phases, firstly relocating and constructing the water supply and drainage, electricity, and telecommunications systems in the 5-meter corridors on the side of the stations of the line. In the next phase, the contractor will relocate and permanently re-establish underground electricity, telecommunications works... in accordance with the design and landscape of the area.
In the construction of relocation and reconstruction of technical infrastructure works, the investor applies the BIM (building information) model to promptly detect conflicts between items and deploy appropriate construction measures, speeding up progress.

According to Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong, the infrastructure system of electricity, water, telecommunications, trees, etc. along Metro Line 2 is very large, so the relocation and rearrangement work is an important item for the project implementation. The city focuses on speeding up the relocation and site clearance progress to have 100% of the area cleared before implementing the main package of the project.
With a huge amount of work and many narrow sections of land, city leaders require construction units to organize construction appropriately to avoid congestion and impact on residents. Units managing electricity, water, telecommunications systems... must have solutions to avoid interrupting the provision of services.
The Ben Thanh - Tham Luong Metro has a total investment of more than 47,800 billion VND, passing through 6 districts: 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, more than 11 km long with 9 underground stations, one elevated station. The project was previously scheduled to be completed in 2026, but encountered many problems so it is being extended to 2030, with two years of defect repair and warranty.

To date, the site clearance progress along the entire route has reached nearly 87% with 508 out of 586 cases handed over. The main problem in District 3 is related to the compensation unit price. Relevant units are speeding up the handling process to ensure the handover of the entire site by the end of this year.
