On March 4, the People's Court of Quang Ninh province opened a trial of defendant Hu Zhiqiang (Chinese nationality) for the crime of Illegally Transporting Currency Across the Border.

According to the indictment, from April 7, 2023 to November 12, 2024, Hu Zhiqiang entered and exited Vietnam and China a total of 1,132 times through Mong Cai international border gate (Quang Ninh).

Therefore, Hu Zhiqiang is well aware of the immigration regulations, including the regulation that border residents are allowed to carry 6,000 yuan (CNY) without declaring it to customs.

The indictment said that on November 12, 2024, Hu Zhiqiang carried a total of 50,000 yuan in cash to Mong Cai international border gate to complete exit procedures from Vietnam to China using a passport for border residents.

Worried about the complicated declaration procedures, Hu Zhiqiang came up with the idea of ​​avoiding declaring the amount of money he was carrying.

"Before completing exit procedures, Hu Zhiqiang hid 10,000 yuan in his body bag and 40,000 yuan in two wind pants pockets, each pocket containing 20,000 yuan to avoid detection," the indictment stated.

At 5:10 p.m. the same day, after completing exit procedures, Hu Zhiqiang went to the inspection area of ​​the Border Guard and Customs force at Mong Cai international border gate.

During the inspection, the authorities discovered, caught red-handed, and seized 500 Chinese 100 yuan bills along with a number of assets and personal documents.

According to the indictment, the total amount of money Hu Zhiqiang illegally transported across the border from Vietnam to China was nearly 170 million VND.

During the investigation, Hu Zhiqiang confessed to his crime. The Quang Ninh Provincial People's Court sentenced defendant Hu Zhiqiang to 8 months in prison for the crime of Illegally Transporting Currency Across the Border.
