10 fascinating facts about the famous Saigon post office
The Saigon Central Post Office is one of the iconic architectural works of Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City. There are many interesting facts about this work that not everyone knows.

1. Not designed by Eiffel. Although many people mistakenly believe that the Saigon Central Post Office was designed by Gustave Eiffel (the designer of the Eiffel Tower), in fact the building was built according to the plan of architect Villedieu and his assistant Foulhoux.
2. Nearly 140 years old. The building was built from 1886 - 1891, is one of the oldest buildings in Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City that is still preserved today.
3. Unique architecture. The building has a European style combined with some Asian decorations, with some postal features such as decorative panels honoring the inventors of the telegraph and electricity.
4. The structure resembles European train stations. Inside the post office building there is a curved iron vaulted ceiling that spans the entire building, similar to European train stations at that time.
5. There are two antique maps inside. As soon as you enter the building, you will see two large hand-drawn maps: "Saigon et ses environs" (Saigon and its environs – 1892) and "Telegraph lines of South Vietnam et du Cambodge" (Telegraph lines of Cochinchina – 1936).
