On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), veteran journalist Martín Hacthoun - Chief Representative of Prensa Latina News Agency in Argentina, praised President Ho Chi Minh 's pioneering role and timeless thinking in the revolutionary press career.

In an interview with VNA reporters in Buenos Aires, Mr. Martín Hacthoun affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh's founding of Thanh Nien newspaper on June 21, 1925 - even before the Communist Party of Vietnam was born - demonstrated his strategic thinking and strong belief in the guiding power of revolutionary media.

Journalist Martín Hacthoun - who was the Chief Representative of Prensa Latina in Vietnam, India and many other countries - expressed his deep admiration for President Ho Chi Minh, who gave birth to and developed Vietnam's revolutionary press. He also highly appreciated the role of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Vietnam's foreign press throughout history.

According to Mr. Martín Hacthoun, President Ho Chi Minh was a leader with a vision beyond his time. From a very early age, he clearly recognized the key role of the press as an indispensable tool to raise political awareness, consolidate revolutionary ideology and organize forces to fight for national independence.

Mr. Martín Hacthoun emphasized that during the struggle against French colonialism and American imperialism, the Vietnamese revolutionary press became a "spearhead" on the ideological front.

The press not only plays an important role in conveying the truth and refuting the distorted arguments of the Western media, but also awakens patriotism among the masses.

In particular, during the resistance war against the US, the Vietnamese press helped international public opinion understand the just nature of the Vietnamese people's struggle against invasion, for independence and national unification.

The Cuban journalist particularly appreciated the role of VNA. He pointed out that the establishment of the national news agency on September 15, 1945, just a few days after President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945), was an inevitable step to ensure information sovereignty and affirm the position of an independent state before the international community.

VNA has played a significant role in reporting timely and accurately on domestic situations and refuting false information from abroad.

Besides its role in the fight against invasion, Mr. Martín Hacthoun commented that the Vietnamese revolutionary press also played an important role in the peace period.

Since 1975, the press has accompanied the nation in the cause of national construction and development. The press not only reflects the remarkable achievements in poverty reduction, agricultural development, industry, and education, but also plays an educational role, raising people's knowledge and building great national unity.

When asked about the challenges facing modern journalism, Martín Hacthoun affirmed that journalism will not disappear, but journalists need to adapt quickly to technological developments.

According to him, journalists not only need to access but also master technology to serve the goal of providing honest and objective information.

The former Head of the Prensa Latina Foreign News Department also warned about the risk of spreading fake news - a phenomenon that is not new but is growing rapidly, especially on social networks.

He cited the 19th-century view of a founder of American journalism that the press could “distort the truth” if it served a political purpose.

Therefore, he emphasized that the primary task of modern journalism is to convey the truth, refute false information and affirm the irreplaceable role of mainstream press agencies.

During the interview, journalist Martín Hacthoun expressed his admiration for the tradition of revolutionary journalism in Vietnam. He believes that the Vietnamese press, with its solid foundation laid by President Ho Chi Minh, will continue to play a pivotal role in the country’s development and in protecting the ideological foundation of the Communist Party of Vietnam./.
