Ba Na in Da Nang is 1,487m above sea level. How did people go on vacation to this mountain top 100 years ago?


Ba Na now a bustling tourist destination for visitors from all over the world. In less than 30 minutes on the cable car, visitors can walk on the clouds to reach this world-famous destination.
According to historical records, from the first survey in 1901, it was not until 1919 that the first wooden house on top of Ba Na was completed.
This is considered a landmark of Ba Na. From here, there are houses, this mountain top is no longer the sole location of the forest rangers.
In May 1923, the two-story hotel with 22 rooms owned by Da Nang businessman Emile Morin opened. From then on, the French dream of "having breakfast in Tourane, lunch in Ba Na" began.
Ba Na with its ideal height and fresh climate becomes an ideal resort for Europeans who cannot stand the heat in our country.
But 100 years ago, with the rugged mountainous terrain, how did people travel and relax? Especially for women and children.



In the book Friends of the ancient capital Hue Published in 1924, Dr. Sallet - who had visited Ba Na many times - described the Ba Na tour serving the period from May 13 to July 15.
This tour departs by car from Morin Hotel in central Da Nang at 4:30am on odd days (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) of the week. The schedule is to arrive at the foot of the mountain at around 6am and continue the journey to the top by chairlift at around 11am.
Conversely, depart from Ba Na to Da Nang on even days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) by chairlift from 5am to the foot of the mountain at 10am.
Then the guests went home by car. Danang at noon. Included in the schedule are the prices for car seats, luggage check-in, local maids, and chair carriers to the top of the mountain...
In particular, each trip only accepts 10 guests and must be notified at least 48 hours in advance with a maximum luggage weight of 30kg.
