Specifically, this farm administered 50 doses of the vaccine to its herd of fattening pigs, with an average weight of 30-40 kg/pig (according to instructions). Seven days after the injection, the pigs showed signs of poor appetite. The Agricultural Service Center instructed the owner to supplement the pigs' diet with vitamins and electrolytes to boost their immunity, but 18 out of the 50 pigs died with the same symptoms after the injection.
The Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine, in coordination with AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company, collected samples for testing. The results showed that the pigs tested positive for African swine fever due to a local virus. The infected virus did not have the same genetic structure as the virus strain isolated for vaccine production.
AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company has taken blood samples from some of the remaining pigs for assessment and to implement treatment measures, including providing nutritional supplements, electrolytes, and disinfecting the pigpens, in order to strengthen the pigs' immune system.
Hai Duong province has administered a total of nearly 1,700 doses of African swine fever vaccine from AVAC Vietnam JSC to 75 pig farms in 8 districts. In Tu Ky district, the veterinary department conducted a trial vaccination of 190 doses at 5 farms in Dai Son, An Thanh, and Van To communes. The farm in Van To commune was the only one that experienced problems after vaccination.
