The Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine recommends that biosecurity practices combined with vaccination are the only effective measures to prevent and control African swine fever.
Local veterinary officers have been briefed on biosecurity procedures for livestock farming, African swine fever prevention and control for large-scale farms; techniques for enclosed and open barn farming, etc. Access to the farm must be minimized. Before entering the livestock area, visitors must be quarantined for at least 72 hours, shower, and wear protective clothing provided by the farm. Immediately after visitors leave the livestock area, the area must be disinfected with a concentration 2-3 times higher than usual.
With open pens, in addition to restricting outsiders from entering and leaving the farm, it is not advisable to buy or bring raw meat and related pork products that have not been cooked from outside into the farm…

In addition to training on biosecurity in livestock farming, local veterinary officers are trained on the methods and procedures for using vaccines, such as: checking the health of fattening pigs before vaccination, checking vaccines and injection equipment, and how to prepare the vaccine. In particular, they are instructed on important points when vaccinating against African swine fever, such as using only healthy pigs, administering a single dose to fattening pigs from 4 weeks of age and older; not using cracked, discolored, or expired vaccine vials; and mixing the freeze-dried vaccine with the accompanying diluent, never with other solutions.
Currently, Hai Duong is the 5th province in the country (after Cao Bang, Lang Son, Bac Ninh , and Quang Ngai) to organize large-scale vaccination against African swine fever. Local veterinary officers will be the main force to implement the large-scale vaccination program.
