Kite string caught on power line at the scene of the incident

At around 5 p.m. on May 13, three 13-year-old boys from Thuong Vuc Commune, Chuong My District ( Hanoi ) were flying kites in a field when the kites got tangled in high-voltage power lines. They used metal sticks and carried each other on their shoulders to retrieve the kites, but were electrocuted and all three fell into a nearby ditch.

The leader of the People's Committee of Thuong Vuc commune said that when people discovered it, one student had died, one was unconscious and taken to the 103 Hospital for emergency treatment, and the other suffered burns. Next to them was an iron rod.

"The area where the incident occurred was a field. When discovered, the children may have been electrocuted for about 30 minutes," said a commune representative.

Previously, on April 21, in Trung Son commune, Viet Yen town, Bac Giang province, a 12-year-old male student was electrocuted while using a stainless steel stick to remove a kite caught in a power line.
