On July 23, a representative of Road Management Area IV (Vietnam Road Administration, Ministry of Construction ) announced that they had widely disseminated information about the guardrail and expansion joint repair project on this expressway to the West through the media, to help drivers choose the appropriate route.
Some sections of the expressway that previously passed through Long An and Tien Giang provinces, now Tay Ninh and Dong Thap provinces, will be repaired between now and mid-September 2025. The project aims to ensure traffic safety and improve the operational capacity of the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway and its access roads have a total length of about 62 km, designed with 4 lanes for both directions and a maximum speed of 100 km/h. Put into operation since 2010, this is the first expressway in the South, initially capable of handling 35,000 - 40,000 vehicles per day and night. Since the beginning of 2019, when toll collection was temporarily suspended, traffic volume has increased sharply to 53,000 per day and night and is often overloaded. To solve this problem, the expressway is expected to be expanded to 8 lanes this year." |
This is the only highway connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Western provinces, with very high traffic density. In recent days, the blockade of part of the highway for construction has caused congestion at some times of the day.
However, thanks to effective remote traffic diversion, many vehicles have switched to using National Highway 1, helping to avoid serious traffic jams like the one currently occurring on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway.
According to reporters, recently, many major roads in the eastern gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City have encountered serious traffic jams due to the repair of expansion joints on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway.
This expressway has closed a part of the road for repairs at Dong Nai bridge area. According to the announcement of Vietnam Expressway Technical Services Joint Stock Company, the estimated time for repairing the bridge is 15 days from July 15.
Due to the serious traffic jam, the authorities have decided to shorten the repair time of the bridge on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway by 3 days earlier than the original plan.
Repairs to this highway have forced vehicles to switch to using National Highway 1, National Highway 51 and Cat Lai ferry towards Ho Chi Minh City, leading to traffic jams on all these routes.
