The Spanish royal team also confirmed that a player from the Real Madrid B reserve team and three players for the Real Madrid C youth team were involved in sharing private clips on WhatsApp.
One of the players is under police investigation. The three Madrid players arrested will face a serious charge under Spanish criminal law of "revealing sexual secrets".
"Real Madrid announces that it has become aware of the fact that a Real Madrid B player and three Real Madrid C players have been indicted by the Guardia Civil (Spanish national police force) for sharing private videos via WhatsApp. Once the club has the details of the incident, we will take the appropriate measures," Real Madrid said in a statement on its website.
Real Madrid has 3 young players arrested and 1 under investigation
All four players are being held at the Real Madrid sports complex in Madrid. Police said the case stemmed from a complaint from the mother of a 16-year-old girl in the Canary Islands over an alleged recording of a sexual encounter. While the girl claims the relationship was consensual, the recording was not consensual and she only recently learned of it.
A police spokesman added that some of the players, who were not minors, had been released after a court decision and the data on their mobile phones had been cleared.
The arrests come amid allegations of sexual assault against former Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales, who allegedly kissed champion Jenni Hermoso after Spain won the Women's World Cup. Rubiales resigned last weekend and faces trial.
