5 national key universities of engineering and technology planned to 2050

The Prime Minister has just approved the Planning of the network of highereducation and pedagogical institutions for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

The plan focuses on developing 5 public universities into national key universities in engineering and technology, with quality and prestige on par with the region. In particular, Hanoi University of Science and Technology is ranked among the top universities in Asia.

These facilities, together with national universities and some regional universities, play a core role in training high-quality human resources and talents, research, development and innovation to serve the development of high-tech fields, strategic technology and national digital transformation.

According to the plan to 2030, the network of higher education institutions training in STEM fields in general will develop to a scale of more than 1 million students, of which about 7% will have a master's degree (and equivalent degree), 1% will have a doctorate degree. Priority will be given to investment in developing higher education institutions with strengths in research and training in STEM fields and sectors associated with the development orientation of key economic and social sectors of the regions.

At the same time, continue to develop 3 universities established under intergovernmental agreements between Vietnam and several other countries (Vietnam-Germany University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam-Japan University) into research-oriented higher education institutions with a high level of internationalization, focusing on potential science, engineering and technology fields; invest in building Vietnam Maritime University as a national key university, reaching the same level as developed countries in the region in science, engineering and technology fields serving the development of the marine economy.
