In the first 6 months of 2025, 51.9 million people have jobs

According to the report of the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), in the first 6 months of 2025, the unemployment rate among working-age people was 2.22%, the underemployment rate among working-age people was 1.72%. The average monthly income of workers reached 8.3 million VND, an increase of 760 thousand VND compared to the same period last year.

In the first 6 months of 2025, the labor force aged 15 and over was 53 million people, an increase of 542.6 thousand people over the same period last year; the labor force participation rate was 68.2%, a decrease of 0.3 percentage points.

The rate of trained workers with degrees and certificates is 29%, an increase of 1 percentage point over the same period last year, which shows that the quality of the labor force is gradually improving. The number of employed workers is 51.9 million, an increase of 538.1 thousand people over the same period last year. Of which, the urban area is 20.1 million people, an increase of 437.1 thousand people over the same period last year; the rural area is 31.8 million people, an increase of 101 thousand people.

By economic sector, the number of employed workers in the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector was 13.5 million, accounting for 26% and decreasing by 243.7 thousand people compared to the same period last year; the industry and construction sector was 17.2 million, accounting for 33.2% and increasing by 258.5 thousand people; the service sector was 21.2 million, accounting for 40.8% and increasing by 523.3 thousand people.

The unemployment rate among working-age people was 1.72%, down 0.33 percentage points over the same period last year. The unemployment rate among working-age people in the first six months of 2025 was 2.22%, down 0.05 percentage points over the same period last year, of which the urban area was 2.44%; the rural area was 2.08%.

In general, the number of employed workers tends to increase, but the development of the labor market is not sustainable when the number of workers with informal jobs accounts for a large proportion. In the first six months of 2025, the rate of workers with informal jobs was 63.9%, down 1.1 percentage points compared to the same period last year. Of which, the urban area was 48%, down 1.7 percentage points; the rural area was 74%, down 0.5 percentage points; men were 67.2%, down 1.0 percentage points and women were 60.1%, down 1.4 percentage points.

Also according to the national statistics agency, in the first 6 months of 2025, the average monthly income of workers was 8.3 million VND, an increase of 10.1%, equivalent to an increase of 760 thousand VND compared to the same period in 2024.

The average monthly income of male workers (9.3 million VND) is 1.32 times higher than the average monthly income of female workers (7.1 million VND). The average income of workers in urban areas (10 million VND) is 1.39 times higher than that of rural areas (7.2 million VND).
