However, according to dermatologists, frequent use of cosmetics without careful skin care is the cause of clogged pores, acne, dry skin and rapid aging. Some long-lasting, matte products also cause dry skin, making the skin surface less smooth and dull if not cleaned properly.
Dr. Sanjeev Gulati, a dermatologist at Sharda Hospital, Noida (India), shared 6 principles that anyone who wears makeup every day should remember if they want to keep their skin healthy and beautiful.
Double cleanse at the end of the day
This is a “survival” principle for those who wear makeup every day. Makeup creates a layer that covers the skin’s surface, combining with dirt, excess oil and sweat to clog pores. If not cleaned thoroughly, remaining cosmetic residue will cause acne, dermatitis, and even dark spots.
How to do it
Step 1 : Remove makeup with an oil-based product to dissolve makeup, sunscreen, and sebum. For areas such as the eyes and lips, use a specialized product to avoid irritation.
Step 2 : Use a mild cleanser, lather thoroughly and massage all over the face for about 60 seconds. Choose a cleanser that suits your skin type (oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin...)
Note: Do not use cold or hot water to wash your face. Warm water is the best choice to clean without making your skin dry and tight.
Moisturize immediately after cleansing
No matter what your skin type is - dry, oily or combination - moisturizing is a must. Because constantly wearing makeup with long-lasting products can easily dehydrate your skin, causing it to become dry and tight or produce more oil to compensate.

Experts recommend choosing a moisturizer suitable for each skin type, prioritizing products containing hyaluronic acid, glycerin and ceramide to moisturize and restore the skin's protective barrier.
How to do it
After washing your face, use toner or mineral spray to balance your skin's pH.
Next, apply a gel or lotion moisturizer for oily skin, or a cream moisturizer for dry skin.
Prioritize products containing hyaluronic acid (retains water), ceramide (restores skin's protective barrier) and glycerin (maintains natural moisture).
Tip : If your skin is too dry, you can apply the layering method: apply thin layers of moisturizer, wait for it to absorb, then apply more, helping your skin to retain moisture better without being sticky.
Always wear sunscreen
Many people subjectively think that foundation with SPF is enough to protect against the sun. However, makeup often does not completely cover the skin and the sun protection ability of makeup is very limited. UVA/UVB rays can completely penetrate makeup, making the skin prone to dark spots, aging, and loss of elasticity.
How to do it
After moisturizing, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, then proceed with your makeup.
After finishing your makeup, bring sunscreen spray or powder to reapply every 3-4 hours if you work outdoors.
Exfoliate regularly
Regular makeup causes dead skin cells to build up, making the skin dull and prone to clogging. Exfoliating 1-2 times a week helps keep the skin clear, smooth and helps skin care products work more effectively.
You can choose chemical exfoliants containing AHA (glycolic acid) or BHA (salicylic acid) to gently cleanse without damaging the skin.
How to do it
Physical exfoliation: Use gel or fine grain scrub, gently massage once a week.
Chemical exfoliation: Use products containing AHA (glycolic acid) for dry skin, BHA (salicylic acid) for oily, acne-prone skin, 1-2 times/week.
Note : Do not exfoliate more than 3 times/week to avoid abrasion and damage to the skin.

Invest in cosmetics and cleaning makeup tools
Not all cosmetics are safe for the skin, especially for those who wear makeup every day. Using low-quality, expired or unsuitable products can easily cause irritation and acne.
How to do it
Choose non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, reputable brand cosmetics that are suitable for your skin type.
Wash makeup brushes and sponges at least 1-2 times a week with a specialized solution or baby shampoo. Dirty tools are a hotbed of acne-causing bacteria that many people ignore.
Tip : Regularly check the expiration date of cosmetics, immediately discard products that have been opened for too long or show signs of deterioration.
Take a “no makeup” day to let your skin rest.
No matter how much you love makeup, take at least 1-2 days a week to let your skin "breathe." This helps reduce pressure on the skin, prevents the risk of clogging, irritation, and supports the skin regeneration process.
How to do it
These days, just do the basics: cleanse - moisturize.
You can apply a moisturizing mask, vitamin C mask or recovery serum to better nourish your skin.
Wearing makeup every day is completely safe for your skin. It's a great way to feel more confident and become a better version of yourself.
But always remember that makeup helps you look beautiful, but healthy skin is the foundation for long-term beauty. Make the above 6 principles a daily habit so that whether you wear makeup or go bare-faced, you still have smooth, youthful skin./.
