The children of the Southern Uprising

On the anniversary of the death of Hero Van Ngoc Chinh, Mrs. Van Thi Bach looked at her parents' portraits with emotion. At 89 years old, having experienced both war and peace , Mrs. Hai Bach understood the value of independence and freedom, especially with the heroic sacrifice of her father. Mrs. Hai Bach said that when her father died, she had just turned 19, working for the Youth Union in the commune, after her were 5 younger siblings, the youngest of whom, Van Ngoc Nhuan, was just over 1 month old. Her mother, Mrs. Nham Thi Cung, also participated in the revolution. Overcoming the pain of losing her husband, despite the enemy's close control and surveillance, Mrs. Nham Thi Cung still maintained her integrity, taking care of both national affairs and family matters.

Mrs. Hai Bach said that at that time, she was both an older sister and a mother, taking care of her younger siblings, suffering in every way. There were times when things were so difficult that Mrs. Cung had to take her children to Nga Nam to take refuge. Regarding this detail, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung (Hai Hung), former member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, former Head of the Propaganda Department of Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee, said: Mrs. Cung took her children to take refuge at his maternal grandfather's house. Because he pitied the widowed mother and orphaned children and admired the sacrifice of Hero Van Ngoc Chinh and the courage of Mrs. Cung, his maternal grandfather adopted her, also to cover up the enemy's eyes. Therefore, Mrs. Cung became Mr. Hai Hung's aunt and now he still calls Mr. Van Ngoc Nhuan his uncle.

Among the 6 children of Hero Van Ngoc Chinh, one died at the age of 15, the rest all joined the revolution. Mr. Van Ngoc Nhuan was a soldier with a gun and a machine gun during the liberation of Soc Trang in 1975. He joined the army from a young age, growing up amidst the bullets, bombs, smoke and fire of war. He said that from the age of 5 or 6, he felt the lack of fatherly love, but his uncles and brothers knew that he was the son of comrade Van Ngoc Chinh and loved him very much. "My father had a great influence on me. His heroic sacrifice has greatly inspired my will, whether in wartime or peacetime," said Mr. Van Ngoc Nhuan. When he grew up a little, hearing people tell stories about his father's sacrifice, brutally killed by the enemy, Mr. Nhuan only knew that he had a burning desire for the country to soon be independent and free, like his father and predecessors who had shed blood fighting.

The red seeds sprouted in the spring, after the day of peace, many generations of Hoa Tu's children, the homeland of the Southern uprising, continued to write the heroic spirit of their ancestors. The five children of comrade Van Ngoc Chinh were all party members, as were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In a metaphor, the whole family together could form a large party organization. Carrying the pride of the leader of the Southern uprising, Hoa Tu, everyone reminded each other of the spirit of living beautifully, living to contribute, worthy of their ancestors.
