The program attracted more than 500 participants including: civil servants; Blue Sea Club; students; fisheries control force; armed forces and tourism businesses in the area.

According to Mr. Phan Xuan Huan, General Director of Vung Tau Urban Construction and Environmental Services Joint Stock Company (VESCO), since May 25, ocean waste has continuously flooded the beaches in the Vung Tau area (formerly) with high intensity. In particular, since November 9, a large amount of ocean waste has been rushing to Bai Sau beach. The company has mobilized machines and means to collect for 2 weeks, the amount of waste has basically decreased but there are still dozens of tons on the beach at the end of Paradise Tourist Area that have not been collected.

Piles of garbage piled high and stretched over 1km of beach with many types of garbage from plastic bags, fishing nets, dry firewood, water hyacinth, styrofoam boxes... still on the beach. Tam Thang Ward has mobilized people and many machines but garbage collection is still very difficult and arduous because the garbage is heavily soaked in water and there are many types of bulky garbage such as wood, boat wrecks, ships, mattresses, electronic equipment...

After more than 3 hours of operation, about 50 tons of ocean waste were collected and transported by specialized vehicles of VESCO Company to Toc Tien Centralized Waste Treatment Area (Chau Pha Commune, Ho Chi Minh City).

Speaking to SGGP reporter, Mr. Ha Huu Dung, Vice Chairman of Tam Thang Ward People's Committee, said that the situation of ocean waste drifting in has seriously affected the environment, urban beauty and especially tourism activities in the area.
“We consider environmental protection a common task for all local people. Especially protecting the marine environment to improve the quality of life and maintain the title of Asia’s leading beach tourism destination,” said Mr. Ha Huu Dung.
Lieutenant Nguyen Chi Thang, Deputy Captain of the Coast Guard Ship of Squadron 301, Coast Guard Region 3 Command, said that the unit mobilized more than 40 officers and soldiers to participate in "Green Sunday" to clean Bai Sau beach on the morning of November 23.
“Participating in garbage collection is a meaningful and important task, contributing to environmental protection, building a green - clean - beautiful beach in Vung Tau area, thereby developing tourism and the economy . However, through this, we hope that the authorities need to have solutions to prevent ocean waste from the source; have sanctions on the act of discharging waste into the environment, especially discharging waste into the marine environment,” said Lieutenant Nguyen Chi Thang.

The beach cleaning campaign also had the active and enthusiastic participation of students in Tam Thang ward. Nguyen Thi Bach Duong, a student of class 11D3 at Vung Tau High School, said: “Through this event, I hope to spread the message that everyone should join hands to protect the environment so that the ocean can be healthy. Protecting the environment and the ocean means protecting our lives.”
At the launch, the leaders of Tam Thang ward called on organizations, clubs, and volunteer groups to continue to join and contribute to cleaning the coast, spreading environmental protection awareness to the community.
