AI and the emotional domain

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has swept across all aspects of life like a storm and is becoming a common tool for schools and teachers to use.

The image of teachers diligently preparing lesson plans, as depicted in the song "Little Stars" by composer Nguyen Van Hien, which many people sang on November 20th decades ago, seems to have faded into the distant past: "The stars in the night sky tonight / Are the joy when by the late-night lamp / Have helped me prepare each page of the lesson plan / So that tomorrow at school, the little stars will become your eyes…" . Now, the song is still sung with love, as are many other songs, including " Dust of Chalk ," beautifully written about the teaching profession, to honor teachers.

The classroom environment, the students' gazes, the dedication, sharing, empathy, and love of teachers for their students are things that machines cannot replicate.

But the form of teaching and learning has changed considerably, depending on the progress of the times and thanks to the remarkable development of technology.

So, how should we learn from and apply this outstanding technological product, this vast repository of knowledge, and this miraculous adaptability of human science —AI? Do teachers need to verify information, create diagrams, or prepare sample lesson plans based on AI? Do students need to blindly trust a solution to a difficult problem or knowledge about a national history event provided by AI? And are there already any textbooks designed to help teachers and students apply AI to teaching and learning in schools, or will they be developed for the purpose of teaching guidance and reference?

All these questions need to be answered if the education sector does not want to fall behind the global technological landscape in terms of its application to teaching and learning, a trend of the times that is considered irresistible.

Official textbooks, curricula, and reference books, compiled and published according to traditional practices and considered standardized, sometimes contain flaws or are criticized as naive, even when the compilers consciously cite their sources. So, to what extent should we trust AI, and what skills do AI users need when relying on a technological tool that provides instant responses on a screen whenever a command is given? All of these issues, I believe, require a comprehensive, clear, and easily understandable strategy. Otherwise, the teachers' struggles in using AI will transmit this confusion to the students, leading to a decline in the quality of knowledge delivery.

For me personally, due to my limited technological skills and the need to learn more, I sometimes ponder the concept of artificial intelligence, replacing essential human functions with flesh-and-blood ones. Especially within the human body, the flow of emotions during interaction and communication, fueled by the heartbeat, is irreplaceable. It's an endless realm of emotions, distilled from many things: the classroom environment, the students' gazes… sometimes even the teacher's reflections on an image encountered on the way to school, or thoughts about a student's circumstances, all interwoven into the teacher's lecture and words as they look at a classroom. Now, and perhaps forever, this will depend on many factors.

Suddenly, the writer recalled a story many people recount: that the poet Bui Giang, once a professor, cried while teaching the Tale of Kieu to his students. He suddenly couldn't continue teaching, and ran out of the classroom while the whole class was bewildered, not understanding what had happened. Only later did they realize that the teacher was extremely sensitive, deeply moved by Kieu's fate, and couldn't hold back his tears when thinking about the cycle of life and the fate of a beautiful woman.

Those tears are the culmination of the sweet, bitter, and painful experiences of human life; I wonder if anyone else understands this?
