Selected as a pilot area in 2023, after just over a year of implementation, Cao Xa commune in Lam Thao district has become the province's first "Community of Compassion." With dedication and a sense of responsibility, the commune's Red Cross Society has collaborated with various organizations and forces to leverage the strength of solidarity and mutual support, working together to help, share love, and warm the hearts of those facing hardship in the area.

Leaders of Cao Xa Commune People's Committee presented humanitarian aid funds to the family of Mr. Dang Nhu Binh (Zone 3).
The small house of Mrs. Quách Thị Nghĩa and her grandson Cao Phan Công in Zone 12 is one of the familiar charitable addresses for members of the Cao Xá Commune Red Cross Society. Công, born in 2020, has an extremely difficult situation; he was born into a near-poverty family, and the day he was born was also the day his mother passed away.
One might have thought that the protection and care of his father and grandmother would fill the void left by his mother's love, but turmoil struck when, last June, his father suddenly passed away in a work accident. The four-year-old boy, with his innocent eyes, didn't understand the permanent separation; now his only support is his grandmother. Since her son's death, Mrs. Nghia has been both grandmother and mother, shouldering the burden of motherhood and fatherhood, placing a heavy load on her frail shoulders.
To share in Cong's plight and to ensure he receives more love and support from the community, the Red Cross Society of the commune, in coordination with the Women's Union of the commune, adopted him as their foster child under the Godmother Program. They also mobilized various departments, organizations, units, businesses, philanthropists, and the people of the commune to contribute and donate over 24 million VND to his family.
Ms. Quach Thi Nghia emotionally expressed: "Thanks to the care and assistance of the departments, organizations, local leaders, the Red Cross, and philanthropists, my grandchildren and I have been able to alleviate some of our difficulties and gain more confidence to continue stabilizing our lives..."
Understanding and empathizing with the difficult circumstances in the area, the Red Cross Society of the commune has recently called for and mobilized support from philanthropists, promoting the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance, helping those less fortunate to alleviate their hardships and rise up in life.
In the first six months of the year, the Association coordinated with the Fatherland Front Committees at all levels and other organizations to organize and present 524 gifts worth over 307 million VND; provided 12 million VND to support the construction of houses for near-poor households; coordinated with the District Red Cross Society, the District Youth Union, and other units, businesses, and philanthropists to provide financial support to 14 humanitarian addresses with a total value of over 103 million VND; and mobilized the people to donate more than 31 million VND to support families facing sudden difficulties...
In addition, the Association regularly organizes visits to and encourages families and members in difficult circumstances, and coordinates with various levels and sectors to organize free medical examinations and distribute free medicine to the people in the commune...

Representatives from the Cao Xa Commune Red Cross Society presented a donation to Cao Phan Cong.
Comrade Cao Thi Xuan Hoa, Chairwoman of the Cao Xa Commune Red Cross Society, said: The commune's Red Cross Society currently has 19 branches with a total of over 1,600 members participating in activities. Since 2023, Cao Xa commune has been selected as a pilot model of the province to implement the building of a compassionate community. Thanks to this, humanitarian and charitable activities in the commune have made remarkable progress, becoming more substantive, organized, systematic, and widespread, becoming a fine tradition in the community life, deeply ingrained in the thoughts and actions of the people in the commune.
The association has actively innovated its activities, through various forms of fundraising and sponsorship for the people in the area, along with the joint efforts of all levels of government, the Fatherland Front, mass organizations and benevolent units, to provide maximum assistance, share difficulties, and give more motivation and confidence for families and individuals to overcome adversity and strive to improve their lives.
Comrade Ta Tien Dung - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cao Xa commune, said: The title of "Compassionate Community" is the result of the efforts of the entire political system and the majority of the people, and is also a great honor for the commune. Building on these achievements, in the coming time, Cao Xa commune will continue to effectively implement humanitarian and charitable work, actively promote the movement "Good people - good deeds, joining hands to build a compassionate community," maintain the title of "Compassionate Community," spread beautiful actions in the community, and contribute to building a prosperous, beautiful, and happy homeland, ensuring that no one is left behind...
