Overcoming landslides on National Highway 279D in Muong Bu commune.

The Department of Construction is assigned to manage more than 1,881 km of national highways and provincial roads, including 9 national highways with a length of 666.4 km, the section of National Highway 6 passing through the inner city is 18.87 km long; 22 provincial roads with a total length of 1,195.75 km. The routes are spread over terrain divided by hills, rivers, streams, steep slopes, and are often affected by rain and floods; many routes have been in use for many years, with heavy trucks increasing day by day..., causing damage to infrastructure and traffic safety.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Hai, Director of the Road Maintenance Management Board, Department of Construction, shared: Since the beginning of the year, especially in July, there have been many heavy rains in the province, causing landslides and subsidence on traffic routes, with total damage of more than 32 billion VND. The Road Maintenance Management Board has strengthened the direction of inspection, urging contractors to manage and maintain regularly and focus on overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, ensuring regular and continuous traffic and safety on routes, serving people's travel and goods trading.

In addition, the Road Maintenance Management Board requires contractors to regularly check the safety conditions of traffic infrastructure works; supplement the system of signs, paint road markings, speed bumps at locations with potential traffic safety risks; arrange personnel on duty, promptly coordinate with functional forces to organize traffic regulation when congestion occurs. In the past 6 months, the unit has directed contractors to repair 55,284 m2 of road surface; dredge and dredge drainage ditches with 8,591 m³; fill sub-bases and roadsides with 4,493 m³. Implement asphalt concrete, solidify the drainage system of nearly 30 km of national highways and asphalt 6.55 km of provincial roads; handle 3 locations with potential traffic safety risks on provincial roads and 92 school locations on national highways.

Entering the peak of the rainy season, the Road Maintenance Management Board has proactively prepared plans to respond to heavy rain, landslides, and flash floods on managed traffic routes. Directing contractors to inspect and review key locations at high risk of landslides, low-lying sections that are frequently flooded, focusing on proactively preventing, combating, and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters; arranging forces, materials, machinery, and equipment on standby on routes to promptly resolve traffic congestion when it occurs. Actively coordinating with the People's Committees of communes to organize and implement regular management and maintenance work, and work to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, and handle congestion according to the 4-on-the-spot motto: "On-site command; on-site forces; on-site means and materials; on-site logistics", promptly handling and ensuring the fastest traffic flow.

Son La Traffic Management and Construction Joint Stock Company I is assigned to carry out road maintenance management, ensuring traffic safety on 4 national highways (4G, 279, 279D, 6B), with a total length of 257.13 km; 5 provincial roads (106, 108, 109, 111, 117), over 250 km and Nam Et ferry terminal. From the beginning of the year to July 15, the routes managed by the Company collapsed, deposited 70,000 m3 of soil and rocks of all kinds at 772 locations; 30 m of negative slope landslides at 2 locations; 150 m3 of roadside erosion. The Company has directed road management units to quickly mobilize machinery and workers to fix and clear the roads.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Tuyen, Director of Son La Traffic Management and Construction Joint Stock Company I, informed: The company has 11 road management departments to organize regular management and maintenance on each route. The departments have established shock teams to ensure timely, urgent and most effective traffic. In addition, the company has proactively arranged means of transport, motor vehicles and signed contracts in principle with businesses and people who have machinery and equipment along the route. When a traffic jam occurs, the machinery on the route can be mobilized and used immediately to clear traffic to ensure step 1 traffic in the fastest time when a traffic jam occurs.

Strengthening road management and maintenance, proactively responding to and promptly overcoming the impact of natural disasters on the road system managed by the Department of Construction, the Road Maintenance Management Board and contractors strive to ensure smooth traffic for people on all routes.
