Medical news update December 15th: Applying psychological counseling in gender medicine.

Psychological counseling is an intervention method aimed at helping patients confront and overcome psychological problems, improve their emotional and cognitive well-being, and ultimately promote their overall health.

Applying psychological counseling in the treatment of sexual health issues.

In today's era, issues related to sexual medicine are no longer unfamiliar topics but are increasingly attracting social attention. Psychological counseling plays a crucial role in the treatment of sexual medicine issues.

Psychological counseling helps patients address issues such as depression, anxiety, or gender-related guilt, helping them develop a more positive self-image.

Applying psychological counseling in the treatment of sexual health issues not only helps patients resolve problems related to sexual function, but also plays a crucial role in providing psychological support, improving mental health, and helping patients integrate better into the community.

By combining medicine and psychology, the treatment of gender-related issues becomes more holistic, more effective, and helps patients lead happy, healthy lives.

Dr. Nguyen Anh Tu, Director of the Hanoi Center for Sexual Medicine, stated that in sexual medicine, there are many issues where, after clinical examination, doctors cannot pinpoint the exact cause. Some patients have undergone treatment with medication, or even surgery, but the results have not been long-lasting or optimal.

In these cases, many reputable medical associations worldwide recommend that psychological counseling be provided to the patient before making any treatment decisions.

When patients come to the Hanoi Center for Sexual Medicine, doctors and psychologists conduct couple therapy, understand the couple's thoughts, and ultimately provide a suitable treatment solution.

Regarding the benefits of gender-related counseling, doctors say that this process can help patients better understand their bodies, improve communication in sexual relationships, and reduce anxiety and stress related to sexuality.

Psychological therapies help patients build self-confidence about their bodies and gender, thereby improving their mental health and communication skills in gender-related relationships.

Psychological counseling also helps patients address issues such as depression, anxiety, or gender-related guilt, helping them develop a more positive self-image.

For transgender individuals, counseling helps them overcome identity crises and adapt to their new bodies, while also reducing feelings of loneliness and social stigma.

The arduous task of treating vestibular disorders.

Vestibular disorders are complex conditions that are easily confused with many other diseases, leading to prolonged treatment without a cure for many patients. One of the main reasons is incorrect diagnosis, self-medication, or self-treatment using unconventional methods. This prevents the disease from being fully resolved and causes serious consequences.

Many patients with vestibular disorders face confusion and fatigue when they receive a different diagnosis each time they visit the doctor. This is a situation that the Ear, Nose, and Throat Center of the Tam Anh healthcare system frequently encounters.

Patients often visit medical facilities without success, mainly due to incorrect diagnosis of the underlying cause, or self-medication and self-treatment in the wrong way.

Symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, loss of balance, tinnitus, and headaches can occur in many conditions such as cerebral ischemia, cardiovascular disease, inner ear disorders, or neurological disorders.

However, the majority of patients seek treatment at general internal medicine or cardiology departments, leading to missed diagnoses or inaccurate diagnoses. Self-medication without proper diagnosis is not only ineffective but also carries many risks.

Previously, before the advent of technology, the diagnosis of vestibular disorders relied primarily on clinical examination. However, abnormal eye movements are difficult to detect with the naked eye, easily leading to missed diagnoses or misdiagnoses.

Without assistive devices, patients often have to rely on traditional treatments, which are time-consuming and expensive without achieving results. The lack of proper treatment further contributes to the chronic nature of the disease.

Currently, vestibular function measurement technology using vitreous humor imaging (VNG) systems with artificial intelligence applications has helped doctors accurately diagnose the causes of vestibular disorders.

Simultaneously, it categorizes the severity of the condition and rules out several serious pathologies such as facial nerve tumors, cerebral infarction, and cerebral vascular occlusion. This technology is very effective in supporting the treatment of vestibular disorders, especially since patients only need a single check-up.

To effectively treat vestibular disorders, doctors advise patients to consult the correct specialist, choose a reputable medical facility with modern equipment, and ensure multidisciplinary collaboration.

Patients need to follow their doctor's instructions and attend follow-up appointments as scheduled. In addition, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, managing stress, eating a balanced diet, and avoiding sudden changes in posture will help support the treatment process and reduce the risk of recurrence.

Vestibular disorders are a completely curable condition if properly diagnosed and treated, with the support of modern technology and treatment methods.

Cerebral aneurysm is a dangerous condition that can lead to serious complications if not treated promptly. If not detected and treated early, the aneurysm can rupture, causing brain hemorrhage and threatening the patient's life. Timely diagnosis and treatment are crucial to preventing serious consequences.

How dangerous is a brain aneurysm?

There are two main methods for treating cerebral aneurysms: surgical clipping of the aneurysm neck and endovascular intervention. While open craniotomy can resolve the problem, it requires complex techniques and is not always feasible.

Meanwhile, endovascular intervention, including aneurysm embolization with metal coils, is now the preferred option for most patients because it is less invasive and applicable to most cases, provided there are no financial constraints.

According to Dr. Luong Tuan Anh, a specialist at the Department of Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Intervention, Military Central Hospital 108, if left untreated, cerebral aneurysms can rupture, causing brain hemorrhage and threatening life. Even if they don't rupture, the condition can leave severe sequelae.

Brain aneurysms can occur due to various reasons, including congenital factors, smoking habits, and obesity, but the most common cause is hypertension.

Symptoms of a brain aneurysm often develop silently, and when a patient experiences sudden headaches, vomiting, or persistent headaches that don't subside, it could be a sign of a brain aneurysm.

Many patients do not notice any obvious symptoms until the aneurysm ruptures. Therefore, early detection is crucial. Patients should be alert if they experience symptoms such as persistent headaches, recurring headaches, headaches that do not respond to conventional medication, or sudden, severe headaches.

Diagnosing a cerebral aneurysm requires the use of imaging techniques such as multislice CT or cerebral magnetic resonance angiography. These techniques help doctors determine the location and size of the aneurysm, thereby developing an appropriate treatment plan.

Recently, a 58-year-old patient from Hanoi, a PVD patient, visited the Department of Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Intervention at Military Central Hospital 108 due to persistent dull headaches that had lasted for two weeks and did not improve with medication.

A CT scan revealed a cerebral aneurysm with a high risk of rupture, and the patient was scheduled for aneurysm embolization using a metal spring. Following the treatment, the patient recovered and was discharged after 24 hours, returning to normal life.

The aneurysm embolization procedure has effectively resolved cerebral aneurysms in PVD patients, while avoiding the dangerous risks associated with aneurysm rupture.

Cerebral aneurysms are a dangerous condition, but they can be successfully treated if detected early. Timely screening and diagnosis are crucial in minimizing the risk of complications and death. Therefore, if any signs suggestive of a cerebral aneurysm appear, patients should immediately go to a specialized medical facility for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Currently, there are many effective methods for treating cerebral aneurysms, especially endovascular intervention, which helps patients recover quickly and minimizes complications.
