Apple regularly stops signing a version of iOS, usually within a week or two of a new version of iOS being released. When an update is stopped signing, it can’t be installed on an ‌iPhone‌ due to a server-side software verification check.

And this time too, just over a week after releasing the iOS 18.2 update, “Apple” has stopped signing iOS 18.1.1. This policy encourages users to update the operating system for their devices, ensuring the biggest security improvements. On Wednesday, Apple also blocked iOS 17.7.2.

The iOS 18.1.1 update brings important security fixes, but no other notable changes. iOS 18.2, on the other hand, brings a number of new Apple Intelligence features to compatible iPhones, including: Image Playground, which lets you create original images; Genmoji, which lets you create emojis from your keyboard; ChatGPT integration with Siri and writing tools; and localized English support for Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, and the UK.

In addition, iOS 18.2 also brings a number of non-AI related changes including: a redesigned Mail app, Find My - allowing you to share the location of lost items with others, and new changes in Camera Control.

Thus, when iPhone users have upgraded to the latest iOS 18.2 version, they will no longer be able to downgrade to iOS 18.1.1.
