This year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET) organized an exam to select excellent students of the city, and selected teams to compete at the national level in cultural subjects for 12th grade high school students according to 2 groups.
Table A is a non-specialized exam program for students from non-specialized high schools, or students not in specialized classes in specialized high schools. The exam results of this table are only used as a basis for ranking excellent students at the city level.
Group B is a specialized exam program for students across the city. The exam results are the basis for ranking excellent students at the city level and selecting teams to compete in the national excellent student competition.
A total of 2,839 students won prizes in the city's excellent student selection exam for the 2025-2026 school year. Of which, 142 won first prizes, 596 second prizes, 807 third prizes and 1,294 consolation prizes.

Responding to VietNamNet on the morning of October 14, a representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that among the 142 students who won first prizes this year, there were 3 10th graders, including: Ho Nhat Hao (class 10A2 of Quoc Oai High School; first prize in Information Technology, group A); Nguyen Dieu Ha (class 10G0 of Newton Secondary and High School; first prize in English, group A) and Bui Nhat Mai (class 10S02 of Newton Secondary and High School; first prize in History, group A).
This year, according to regulations, the 20 candidates with the highest results in the city's excellent student exam will join the national excellent student exam team for each subject. No consolation prize will be included in the team to ensure quality.
Thus, Hanoi will have 247 candidates participating in the national excellent student exam in the 2025-2026 school year, 2 subjects with less than 20 students/team are Russian (19 students) and Japanese (8 students). Of which, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted has the largest number of students participating in the national excellent student exam this year with 140 students; followed by Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted (49 students) and Chu Van An High School (36 students).
Among them, 10th graders entered the Hanoi team to compete in the national excellent student selection exam, including: Nguyen Dang Khanh (10G0 class of Newton Secondary and High School; Math); Vu Quang Dung (10th grade Math 1 class of Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted; Math); Pham Hong Luong (10th grade Japanese class of Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted; Japanese).
