On May 16, Dr. Vo Thi Thuy Linh - Head of Department 3, Can Tho Children's Hospital - said that recently doctors examined and discovered a nest of parasitic dog ticks in a girl's ear.
According to the family, recently T. (9 years old, in Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) often had itchy ears, he often picked his ears leading to bleeding. The family took him to Can Tho Children's Hospital for examination.
At the hospital, doctors examined the child's ear with an endoscope and discovered a tick nest in the ear. The tick nest may have existed for a while, nesting and reproducing quite a lot in the ear. The family also said that the child's family kept quite a few dogs at home.
ENT specialists performed endoscopy to remove the dog tick nest and clean the child's ear canal. Examination showed no damage to the ear canal or eardrum, so the patient was discharged for follow-up examination.
Doctors warn that keeping dogs, cats or pets in the house, if not cleaned and in frequent contact, can easily lead to risks such as fleas, ticks parasitizing the body, or tapeworms entering the body, allergies to dog and cat hair with people in contact... Houses with small children need to pay special attention.
