All the debris at the highway construction site has been removed, but the construction crew needs another 10 days to complete the work.
On December 31st, in an interview with a reporter from Giao Thong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Tien Dat, Deputy Director of the Project Management and Land Development Board of Cai Rang District, Can Tho City, stated that the relocation of landfill No. 8 (Ba Lang Ward, Cai Rang District) has reached approximately 80%.

"The debris at the road embankment has been completely removed and moved to the sides. The construction unit needs to work on the land clearance boundary and create the embankment slope because the excavation depth is 7-8 meters. We need about 10 more days to complete all the work and hand over 100% of the cleared land to the expressway project," Mr. Dat said.
Mr. Dat also stated that on the same day, the unit worked with the My Thuan Project Management Board ( Ministry of Transport , the investor of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway) to finalize the handover of the roadbed. According to him, with this handed-over area, the expressway construction unit can now begin pumping sand.
According to the Project Management and Land Development Board of Cai Rang District, Can Tho experienced unseasonal rains at the end of the year, hindering the relocation process. In addition, rising groundwater levels made it difficult for machinery to operate during excavation. The construction unit was forced to dig temporary pits to pump out the water.
During the final stretch of the project, the contractor worked diligently from early morning until 10 PM every day.
Landfill No. 8 covers an area of 4.3 hectares and contains over 162,000 tons of waste. The relocation of the landfill has been approved by the People's Committee of Cai Rang District, with a design and cost estimate of 1.95 hectares to be relocated and a budget of 13.08 billion VND. The project is scheduled to be completed in 45 days, starting from November 15th.
The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project is part of the North-South East Expressway construction project for the 2021-2025 period, and is divided into two component projects: Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau.
The section passing through Can Tho is 0.6km long, with a total connecting route length of over 9.2km. This includes a section from the Southern Hau River National Highway to the IC2 interchange of over 2.2km; a section from the IC2 interchange to National Highway 1 of 7km; and landfill No. 8 located at the intersection with National Highway 1.
