Bamboo Airways receives new aircraft before summer peak season

According to the agreement, Bamboo Airways will wet lease Boeing 737-900ER aircraft from BBN Airlines (Indonesia) to operate on busy routes in Vietnam as well as some destinations in Southeast Asia.

After landing at Tan Son Nhat airport, the aircraft will undergo technical inspection and bear the identity of Bamboo Airways to officially put into operation from the end of May 2025.

The Boeing 737-900ER (Extended Range) is the latest and largest version of the 737 Next Generation (NG) family, designed to meet the needs of high-performance passenger transportation at optimal operating costs. The aircraft is equipped with aerodynamic and structural improvements, including reinforced wings and tail, improved flap systems, additional fuel tanks and winglets for increased fuel efficiency.

The 737NG family of aircraft is the "backbone" of the fleets of several airlines around the world thanks to its flexibility and reliability for short and medium-haul flights. Currently, many major airlines such as Delta Airlines, United Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air... are still actively exploiting this narrow-body aircraft line.

Aircraft are carefully inspected to ensure standards for operation.

Vietnam’s aviation industry continues to record a strong recovery, thanks to increased domestic demand and a booming international market. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, airports across the country served more than 109 million passengers in 2024 – a recovery level nearly equivalent to the peak period before the pandemic. The number of international visitors alone increased by 26%, showing that Vietnam continues to be an attractive destination for tourists.

However, Vietnamese airlines still face many difficulties in expanding their fleets due to long aircraft delivery times, maintenance overload and scarcity in the aircraft leasing market. In this context, the ACMI cooperation model offers a flexible and timely solution to expand operations while still ensuring service quality.
