(Dan Tri) - As Tet approaches, the seasonal job of selling sand to replace incense burners in Da Nang is in full swing. Although it only happens a few times a year, a few days, the job brings in a significant income.
As Tet approaches, the need to clean and prepare family altars increases, and the job of selling white sand to replace incense burners in Da Nang is especially in demand. This is a short-term job, an opportunity for workers to earn extra income to cover Tet needs.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Xi (42 years old, living in Lien Chieu district, Da Nang) said that for the past 6 years, every December 20 (lunar calendar), she brings sand home and pushes her cart around the streets to sell.

According to Ms. Xi, nowadays, white sand sellers no longer have to struggle to get goods from Quang Nam like before. In Da Nang, there are many places that provide clean sand, which has been carefully processed, helping to save time and effort.
"The income from this job is not high, but I still earn a few hundred thousand dong every day. During Tet, I also earn a few million dong to add on, buy candy, and meat for my family," Ms. Xi shared.
This year, white sand is pre-measured for the convenience of buyers (Photo: Thu Tram).
According to records, this year, many people have put white sand in plastic bags and displayed them on tables and small stalls, instead of using ox carts like before.
Mr. Huynh Dong (45 years old, living in Hoa Vang district, Da Nang) said that this profession is very popular. Small families buy 1 bag (3 cans of sand), many families buy 3-4 bags.
"The sand is pre-divided into bags, there are two sizes, big and small, convenient for buyers. Small bags cost 10,000 VND, large bags cost 20,000 VND. Every day I sell about 200 cans of sand, on busy days when it sells out early, I come back to get more," Mr. Dong shared.
Before reaching customers, the sand must be sifted and dried (Photo: Thu Tram).
For Ms. Tran Thi Hien (53 years old, living in Hai Chau district, Da Nang), changing the incense burner sand is an annual task.
"Tet is also the time to change the incense sand to make it clean and solemn. Every year I buy white sand to prepare the altar at home. It's convenient and the price is reasonable. Just buying a bag for 10,000 VND is enough to replace the incense burner in the house," Ms. Hien confided.
