Writer Bich Ngan wrote the script "Red Coral" more than 10 years ago, the work is imbued with gratitude for the soldiers on the oil rig who sacrificed their lives in storm No. 10 in 1990.
34 years have passed, the fierce storm that swept across the southern continental shelf on the night of December 4, 1990, collapsing the DK1/3 platform, taking the lives of 3 beloved comrades, is still deeply imprinted in the hearts of Vietnamese naval soldiers.
Fan the flames of pride
DK1/3 rig was located right at the center of storm No. 10 in 1990. Waves tens of meters high rolled up from the seabed and crashed hard, causing the rig to sway...
Writer Bich Ngan was moved to say that the script "Red Coral" that she wrote more than 10 years ago is a story expressing her admiration for the extraordinary will and bravery of the soldiers on the oil rig. This script was adapted by young author Pham Van Dang into a very smooth and profound cai luong play "Red Coral".
A scene from the play “Red Coral”
"You have forever remained in the open sea. The DK1 sea area is considered a special cemetery. That cemetery does not have graves like on the mainland. Your graves are white-capped waves, red coral branches blending into the ocean. I admire even more the spirit of the island soldiers, of the soldiers of our country's oil rigs, as they are soldiers who have never laid down their guns" - author Pham Van Dang confided.
To fan the flames of pride in the hearts of the public, each verse and line in "Red Coral" was carefully crafted by the author. The play revolves around the story of three soldiers who sacrificed their lives as an epic of revolutionary heroism, affirming the sovereignty of the Fatherland on the continental shelf.
For the country's eternal independence
People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau staged "Red Coral" interweaving the past and present. The story of 3 soldiers is like slices carrying many messages.
Writer Bich Ngan posed a "difficult problem" for People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau and the production team to be creative and painstakingly search for materials to express the message of pride for the brave soldiers on the platform. The space of the story taking place on the platform is vividly and impressively portrayed.
The scenes of reenactment and memories under the deep sea, when the soldiers look back at their families, observing their comrades who are day and night protecting the sea, islands and continental shelf of the Fatherland, are very touching. The music, scenery, lighting and Gauze screen effects also help the play exude the proud beauty of patriotism.
The Cai Luong play "Red Coral" brings together a strong cast: People's Artist My Hang, Meritorious Artist Minh Hoang, Meritorious Artist Vo Thanh Phe, artists Kim Luan, Nguyen Van Khoi, Nguyen Thanh Toan... People's Artist My Hang confided: "The script has given me a sense of pride when praising the soldiers on the oil rig, while expressing the patriotic spirit in every artist's heart. This is also a work "Studying and following the example, style, and morality of Ho Chi Minh " that Tran Huu Trang Theater strives to express".
According to Meritorious Artist Vo Thanh Phe, in "Red Coral", the most touching story is about Lieutenant Nguyen Huu Quang. Before being swept away by the waves, he gave his life jacket and dry food to his comrades. Their example of sacrifice was shown on the cai luong stage with all respect.
Through "Red Coral", the audience will also understand more clearly the lives of soldiers protecting the islands and oil rigs. It is difficult to describe all their hardships in a literary script. However, when watching "Red Coral", the audience will feel the dedication and sacrifice of the soldiers who died for the country's eternal independence.
Tran Huu Trang Theater performed a preview of "Red Coral" and received praise from the Arts Council - Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City. This play will participate in the National Cai Luong Theater Festival in Can Tho City from October 25 to November 12.
