The press - a sharp weapon in the struggle and construction under the leadership of the Party

The Vietnamese Revolutionary Press has left brilliant marks in its 100-year history of construction and development. With the first milestone being the Thanh Nien Newspaper's first issue on June 21, 1925, the Revolutionary Press was born as a historical necessity, meeting the urgent needs of the process of campaigning to establish the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, informed: "Founded by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc, Thanh Nien Newspaper has successfully completed the task of propagating the ideological activities of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association, contributing to the dissemination of Marxism-Leninism, guiding and encouraging members of the Association after being trained to return to the country to proactively promote the struggle movement of the working class and the patriotic movement; actively contributing politically, ideologically, organizationally and morally, leading to the birth of communist organizations in late 1929 and the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the spring of 1930".

Theo đồng chí Nguyễn Xuân Thắng, với cách tiếp cận khách quan, nhiều chiều, báo chí đã phản ánh trung thực, sinh động đời sống xã hội trên mọi miền đất nước.

According to comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang, with an objective and multi-dimensional approach, the press has truthfully and vividly reflected social life in all regions of the country.

"After the success of the August Revolution, implementing President Ho Chi Minh's instructions, 'the press is a sharp weapon in the revolutionary cause of the people', 'press cadres are also revolutionary soldiers; pens and paper are their sharp weapons', the press has well promoted its mission of 'supporting the righteous and eliminating evil', fighting against the enemy's distorted and destructive arguments, actively serving the task of protecting the young revolutionary government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam", said Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang.

Looking back at the development process over the past 100 years, according to Professor, Doctor Ta Ngoc Tan, Permanent Vice President of the Central Theoretical Council, the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press has been loyal to its original goals and objectives, becoming a sharp weapon, accompanying the nation in the arduous and sacrificial struggles to overthrow the domination of French colonialism, to drive out the powerful invading armies of the Japanese, French and American empires, for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, as well as in the cause of building and developing the country for the happiness of the people, creating glorious and proud pages of history.

In the process of national renewal, the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press has constantly affirmed its role as a pioneering force on the ideological and cultural front. Right from the early days, the press has actively promoted the spirit of innovation, encouraged creative thinking, praised new factors and models, and spread the spirit of emulation and creative labor to all classes of people.

Not only a means of communication, the press is also a bridge between the Party, the State and the people; between policies and practical life; promoting the role of leading and orienting public opinion, building social consensus.

"With an objective and multi-dimensional approach, the press has truthfully and vividly reflected social life in all regions of the country; promptly highlighted urgent issues on poverty reduction, environment, education, health, social security, administrative reform, anti-corruption, waste and negativity; played a role in monitoring and criticizing society, detecting bottlenecks in management and policy implementation, making appropriate recommendations, helping the Party and State promptly adjust and perfect institutions and laws," Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang added.

The press overcomes challenges, accompanying the nation in the era of growth

Besides the positive aspects, the negative impacts of the market economy and the expansion of international exchanges and cooperation have had a significant impact on the life of the press and the team of journalists in the country.

Accordingly, the globalization process with the explosion of digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, Internet of Things (IoT), social networks... not only brings opportunities but also poses many challenges for Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.

From the practical situation, comrade Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat, acknowledged: "The process of globalization and the explosion of digital technology, artificial intelligence and social networks not only bring opportunities but also pose many challenges for revolutionary journalism".

To continue fulfilling its mission, accompanying the nation in the era of development, prosperity, civilization and prosperity, comrade Tran Cam Tu suggested that press agencies nationwide need to thoroughly grasp and implement well a number of contents: Party committees of press agencies and journalists' associations at all levels need to thoroughly and more deeply grasp the principle: The Party's absolute and comprehensive leadership over press activities to meet the needs of the cause of innovation, construction and development of the country.

The press must closely follow the Party's viewpoints, policies and guidelines; closely follow the breath of life and the times; regularly and continuously propagate major, important and urgent matters that the entire Party and the entire political system are currently focusing on organizing and implementing, such as: the revolution in arranging and streamlining the apparatus of the political system; the development of the socio-economy in the new era of development; breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation; international integration in the new situation; the work of building and enforcing laws to meet the development requirements of the country.

At the same time, disseminate and reflect in-depth information, ensuring objectivity, timeliness and depth on activities to prepare for Party Congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress. At the same time, promptly reflect the aspirations of cadres, Party members and people.

Press agencies actively and resolutely carry out innovation, arrangement, and streamlining of the press agency system in the direction of streamlining and strengthening; continue to innovate, improve the quality, attractiveness, and persuasiveness in information and propaganda work of the press system. Each press agency operates in accordance with its principles and purposes, focusing on summarizing practices, developing theories on the Party's guidelines and viewpoints, and the State's policies and laws on publications, platforms, and types of press, especially on the Internet and social networks, contributing to protecting, building, and developing the country.

Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu also asked journalists to take professional ethics seriously; journalists must properly implement the principles and goals of the press agency, focusing on improving quality, training, fostering, and cultivating the qualities, ethics, and working capacity of those working in the press and media.

The editorial offices build a team of cadres, reporters, and editors of press agencies with strong political will, good professional skills, and clear professional ethics, who are truly typical, exemplary, concise, and pioneers in all fronts, especially on the information and propaganda front to fight against peaceful evolution, self-evolution, and self-transformation within the organization.

"The press needs to promote research, exploitation and application of scientific and technological achievements, digital transformation of the press associated with administrative reform, building professional press agencies, operating effectively, efficiently and effectively and integrating internationally," said comrade Tran Cam Tu.

During that process, the Party and the State always have high expectations and will create conditions and allocate more resources for the press to perform its functions and tasks well in the new era. In the immediate future, press agencies need to develop specific, regular, continuous, and in-depth propaganda plans, divided into propaganda campaigns before, during, and after Party congresses at all levels, towards the 14th National Congress of the Party.

In particular, it is necessary to focus on accurate, objective, timely and in-depth propaganda about the preparation activities, document content, personnel and election process, while reflecting the thoughts and aspirations of cadres, party members and people on issues related to the Congress. After the Congress, press agencies focus on propagating the resolution into life to turn the resolution into practical action.
