20 years in the 100-year journey of revolutionary journalism of the whole country, Minh Hai Newspaper (from 1976 - 1996) has created a special mark for the Ca Mau peninsula at one time.
And until now, when sitting together to review a journey of journalism, with hardships and challenges, everyone's heart is full of pride. Because that place has preserved the youth of a generation of journalists with "professional blood", passion, dedication and is also the "furnace" that has trained famous and talented journalists across the country!
Generations of journalists met together and reviewed the proud 20-year journey (1976 - 1996) of Minh Hai Newspaper.
The place where the youth of Minh Hai journalists is kept
“Our youth is the years spent in this sacred place” - an impressive summary in the nearly 20-minute reminiscences filled with information, documents and containing unforgettable memories and recollections of journalist Dao Hong Hanh - reporter of Minh Hai Newspaper, former Deputy General Secretary of Thanh Nien Newspaper.
Within the framework of the meeting, the journalists also participated in many meaningful activities such as revisiting the locations that used to be the headquarters of Minh Hai Newspaper and visiting historical sites in Bac Lieu City.
That youth is both the age of life, the age of career, and also the vitality, enthusiasm, and passion of the journalists who together created the reputation of Minh Hai Newspaper in that 20-year journey. The handshakes, the happy faces, the warm hugs of decades (many people had not seen each other for that long), and there were even tears in the special reunion on the threshold of 100 years of journalism.
The meeting on the afternoon of June 1st (at the garden house of writer and journalist Phan Trung Nghia, in Hung Hoi commune, Vinh Loi district) was organized by the staff, reporters and editors of Minh Hai Newspaper to meet and review the years of working together to build Minh Hai Newspaper!
Although she had prepared a speech, journalist Dao Hong Hanh shared her thoughts, feelings, and memories more than she had prepared! Because, a special reunion like this is enough to evoke emotions, enough to revive memories that words can hardly "load" fast enough.
Ms. Hanh talked a lot, but the part where she could not hide her pride was when she talked about Minh Hai Newspaper quickly conveying the current situation of the country - something that when the media in general was not yet developed, and the facilities and equipment were still lacking, Minh Hai Newspaper was able to do and did it very quickly! Specifically, the special topic about hero Pham Tuan flying into space was launched on July 23, 1980, including an editorial "We fly into space". According to her, Minh Hai Newspaper has all the qualities of a modern newspaper like today!
Those news articles were enthusiastically read by the aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters, in a carefully bound collection, to admire themselves for having fulfilled their responsibility and mission as “secretaries of the times” during the difficult period of the country’s reunification. This was also the work of journalist Minh Toan (former Head of the Secretariat - Editorial Office, Bac Lieu Newspaper) who painstakingly collected and brought to this meeting.

Journalist Nguyen Minh Chanh - former Editor-in-Chief of Minh Hai Newspaper, Bac Lieu Newspaper, talked about his memories of working for Minh Hai Newspaper and emotionally remembered his comrades and colleagues who are no longer with him.
Journalist Dao Hong Hanh - reporter for Minh Hai Newspaper, former Deputy General Secretary of Thanh Nien Newspaper, on behalf of generations of Minh Hai journalists, shared his feelings and proudly reminisced about the "cradle" of Minh Hai Newspaper.
"Furnace" for training talented journalists
In her heartfelt words, journalist Hong Hanh, on behalf of her colleagues, affirmed: “This is an opportunity to recall heroic memories, to show gratitude to the “cradle” that has given wings to many generations of journalists and writers and to arouse pride in a pioneering newspaper”. Minh Hai Newspaper is the place that nurtures, gives wings to, and produces a series of excellent journalists and writers. There are journalists who have been elected as Vice Presidents of the Vietnam Journalists Association , many journalists are leaders of regional press and radio agencies, leaders of resident press agencies and many newspapers and radio stations in provinces and cities...
Minh Hai Newspaper was once famous not only in the region but also nationwide thanks to those talented journalists! Journalist Nguyen Minh Chanh - former Editor-in-Chief of Minh Hai Newspaper, recalled the impressive figure: "At its peak, Minh Hai Newspaper distributed up to 150,000 copies per issue". At a time when people's lives were still difficult, why did Minh Hai Newspaper reach such a huge circulation figure?! That is because "Minh Hai Newspaper is the voice of the vast Minh Hai Provincial Party Committee, a bridge between the Party and the People in the renovation period. The newspaper with the spirit of "having iron and steel" bravely fought against negativity, such as the Lu Anh Doi case, the case of the Director of Tam Khoi Food Company, the case of the Secretary of Vinh Trach - Hai Nghe Commune, the case of the Director of the Department of Transport... All of these have created strong trust in readers" - according to journalist Nguyen Minh Chanh.

Despite his old age and poor health, veteran journalist Pham Van Tri (aka journalist Bay Minh), former Acting Editor-in-Chief of Minh Hai Newspaper, still spoke eloquently when recalling the proud journey with his colleagues, as well as when entrusting his faith to the next generation: “Today’s meeting is an opportunity to review the beautiful memories of 20 years of generations of Minh Hai journalists. With love for their homeland and gratitude for life, the journalists of Minh Hai Newspaper have together built a precious symbol not only of the journalism field but also of the deep affection for their homeland Minh Hai. The meeting is for generations of journalists in Ca Mau, Bac Lieu today and in the near future, the new Ca Mau province to look back at the values that have made the name of Minh Hai Newspaper, to continue spreading the light of journalism culture to the future”.
Yes, certainly the light of journalistic culture that the predecessors have worked hard to light and keep shining throughout the 20-year journey of Minh Hai newspaper, as well as the Ca Mau - Bac Lieu newspaper, will spread and become brighter. That continuous link is heading towards a modern press, integrating on the glorious tradition that the previous generation has left behind.
