Bao Nhai builds forest patrol road combined with tourism exploitation

Building forest patrol roads combined with exploiting experiential tourism in the Nghien and Trai wood forests has been an effective activity of Bao Nhai commune for the past few years.

The 3.2 km long route passes through Coc Sam village, where there is a 1,000 year old ironwood tree recognized as a Vietnam Heritage Tree. It is about 80% complete and is expected to be completed this July.

The road not only facilitates patrolling, forest control, and forest fire prevention, but also connects the potential for ecotourism development with the experience of nghien-trai forests, combining unique indigenous cultural values. This is an important step to link forest protection with livelihood development, attracting tourists, and contributing to sustainable economic development for the Bac Ha highlands.

The forest of ironwood and acacia trees is located in the old Coc Ly commune, now Bao Nhai commune, Lao Cai province.

The Nghien and Trai wood forest area has a total area of over 486 hectares, of which about 270 hectares of natural forest are strictly protected, with 863 rare Nghien and Trai wood trees with a height of 1.3 m and a diameter of 30 cm or more.

This is a forest that preserves a particularly valuable source of rare forest plant genes. The forest has special ecological, biodiversity and landscape values, and is home to many wild animals such as golden monkeys, pheasants and other small animals, and needs to continue to be strictly and permanently protected.
