This afternoon, storm Sanba weakened into a tropical depression west of Leizhou Peninsula (China), with the strongest wind speed decreasing to 61 km/h (level 7).
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that in the coming hours, the tropical depression will move in a south-southwest direction, interact with cold air and weaken into a low-pressure area in the southern Gulf of Tonkin tomorrow afternoon.

The storm is far from mainland Vietnam so it has no impact. In the Gulf of Tonkin (including Co To and Bach Long Vi islands), this afternoon the waves were 2-3 meters high. Boats, anchorages, aquaculture areas, and sea dykes in this area are affected by strong winds and big waves.
Sanba is the fifth storm to hit the South China Sea this year. The previous two storms, Koinu and Sao La, entered the South China Sea and headed north, without affecting Vietnam. Another storm or tropical depression is forecast to appear in October.
