Storm No. 5 weakens, rain and wind across the North and Central regions

According to information from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, early this morning (August 26), storm No. 5 weakened into a tropical depression in Central Laos.

At 4:00 a.m. on August 26, the center of the tropical depression was at about 18.9 degrees North latitude; 104.5 degrees East longitude, in the Central Laos region. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression was level 7 (50-61 km/h), gusting to level 9; moving in the West Northwest direction at a speed of 15-20 km/h.

It is forecasted that in the next 12 hours, the tropical depression will continue to move in the West Northwest direction at a speed of about 20km/h and gradually weaken into a low pressure area.

Due to the influence of the tropical depression, from early morning until the end of today, the midlands and the Northern Delta, Lao Cai, Son La and from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh will have heavy rain with common rainfall of 50-100mm, locally over 200mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain (>100mm/3 hours). Hanoi capital will have heavy rain and thunderstorms, cool weather. During thunderstorms, be on guard against the risk of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.

In addition, the Upper and Central Laos regions have heavy rain with common rainfall of 100-250mm, especially in the Central Laos region, some places have over 500mm.
