Convincingly defeating Thailand, the Vietnamese women's team won 3rd place in Southeast Asia

In the third-place match of the Southeast Asian Women’s Football Championship, the Vietnamese women’s team won 3-1 against Thailand at Lach Tray Stadium. This is the second consecutive time in this tournament that coach Mai Duc Chung and his team have won against the “War Elephants”. Previously, we defeated this opponent with a score of 1-0 in the group stage.

Commenting on Thailand's match against the Vietnamese women's team, Siam Sport newspaper wrote: "The Thai women's team lost to the Vietnamese women's team with a score of 1-3 and only ranked 4th in the Southeast Asian women's football tournament."

In the article, the author commented: “Once again, the Thai women’s team tasted bitterness when facing the Vietnamese women’s team. In the third-place match, Chaba Kaew (the nickname of the Thai women’s team) suffered a 1-3 defeat against the Vietnamese women’s team.

Unlike the group stage match, coach Mai Duc Chung’s team led 3-0 against Thailand. It was not until the end of the match that the Golden Temple team had an honorable equalizer. This was an unsuccessful tournament for Thailand as they only finished 4th overall.”

Khoasod newspaper commented: “The Thai women's team lost to the Vietnamese women's team again and accepted 4th place in the Southeast Asian women's football tournament. Despite their best efforts, coach Futoshi Ikeda's team could not withstand the strength of the host Vietnam.

The Vietnamese women's team counterattacked very sharply. Their goals mainly followed this scenario. Meanwhile, the Thai defense made many mistakes. That caused the "War Elephants" to suffer their second defeat against coach Mai Duc Chung's team in the tournament.

Another Thai newspaper, Matichon, admitted that coach Futoshi Ikeda fielded the best possible lineup in the match against the Vietnamese women's team. Thailand also showed great effort during most of the first half.

However, the Vietnamese women's team played more skillfully and took advantage of their opportunities. They scored three goals in a row to overwhelm Thailand's efforts. After this tournament, the Football Association of Thailand will meet with the coaching staff to plan for the next tournaments, most notably the 33rd SEA Games taking place at the end of the year in Thailand."

The Daily News said that this was an inexcusable defeat because Thailand had lost to the Vietnamese women's team twice in a short period of time. The 4th place in the Southeast Asian football tournament was not a bad achievement when Thailand only sent a young team to the tournament. They emphasized that the goal of Thai women's football was to win the gold medal at the SEA Games on home soil at the end of the year.
