In the summer of 2025, the Provincial Social Work Center will launch a series of free life skills classes for students aged 7-11. The classes provide an open, flexible learning environment that is close to children's psychology. Here, children do not study for exams, but study to live more safely, be more confident and know how to protect themselves.
Through topics that are carefully developed and taught by a team of experts, children are exposed to a lot of practical knowledge, such as: Children's rights and responsibilities according to the Law on Children; signs to recognize to prevent abuse, skills to refuse strangers, respond to school bullying, how to use social networks safely, escape skills and prevent accidents and injuries... At the same time, they participate in experiential activities, role-playing, and situational games, helping to form skills through practice and memorize knowledge naturally.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh, a teacher at the class, said: Here we aim to equip children with the most necessary knowledge so that they know how to protect themselves. Topics such as how to prevent abuse and violence are understood correctly by the children, who know how to name the problems they encounter both outside and at school. Many children who initially came to class were shy and reluctant to share their problems; now they are more confident, comfortable, and open. Teachers and students communicate and work in an open, friendly, and close environment, so we can connect and share more.
In recent times, the work of protecting and caring for children in the province has had many positive changes thanks to the attention of all levels and sectors from the province to the grassroots. Child protection models have been replicated at the grassroots level, helping children to be equipped with the necessary skills to respond to many situations occurring in the community. Typical models include: "Safe, friendly, non-violent schools"; "Care andeducation for comprehensive child development"; "Management of adolescents at risk of breaking the law"; "Children's Rights" Club... In particular, the "Sunshine House" model has been maintained with the function of providing emergency support and temporary care and nurturing at shelters for women and girls who are victims of domestic violence, abuse or human trafficking...
In addition to the work of fighting and strictly handling violations, creating deterrence; communication activities in the community on preventing and combating child abuse through many forms: Meetings, visual propaganda, social networks..., help to raise awareness and responsibility of each family and the whole society in preventing child abuse, and help children be equipped with knowledge and skills to protect themselves when necessary.
The province currently has nearly 4,000 children in special circumstances, including nearly 2,000 children who are orphans, have lost their source of support..., who are vulnerable cases. The Provincial Women's Union has effectively implemented the "Godmother" model since 2020; it has mobilized monthly sponsorship for 435 children (91 children in difficult circumstances, 344 orphans). The Provincial Children's Support Fund mobilized agencies and businesses to sponsor 270 children. The Provincial Border Guard Command (now the Provincial Border Guard Command) has a program "Helping children go to school - Adopted children of border guards"...
Protecting children is not only a legal obligation but also a shared responsibility of the whole society. Working together is the way we can build a healthier, safer and happier future generation.
