The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that at 7:00 a.m. on July 22, storm Wipha (storm No. 3) was right next to the eastern coast of Hung Yen - Ninh Binh, about 25km east of Hung Yen , about 45km northeast of Ninh Binh with a strong intensity of level 9, gusting to level 11.
Due to the complicated developments of Typhoon Wipha, the Civil Aviation Authority has decided to temporarily suspend flights at Van Don and Cat Bi airports from 11pm on July 21 to 12pm on July 22. All flights will be canceled and passengers will be rescheduled once the airports resume operations.
The aviation authority requested Noi Bai airport and Tho Xuan airport to continue monitoring meteorological reports and propose appropriate adjustments to their operating plans. For airlines, the Civil Aviation Authority requested that they proactively notify passengers of flight plan adjustments so that they can plan their travel accordingly.
Due to the impact of storm Wipha, Vietnam Airlines has continued to adjust its operation plan at a number of airports on July 22 to ensure operational safety.
At Van Don airport, flights VN1286 and VN1287 between Ho Chi Minh City and Van Don will have their operating hours adjusted, expected to land after 2:00 p.m.
At Cat Bi Airport (Hai Phong), flights VN1176, VN1177 between Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong and flights VN1670, VN1671 between Da Nang and Hai Phong will also have their departure time delayed, landing after 2:00 p.m. the same day.
At Tho Xuan Airport (Thanh Hoa), flights VN1276, VN1277, VN7264, VN7265 between Ho Chi Minh City and Tho Xuan will depart early, taking off at Tho Xuan before 11am. Meanwhile, flights VN1278, VN1279, VN7268, VN7269, VN7276 and VN7277 on the same day will be canceled.
The airline is also continuing to closely monitor weather developments to promptly come up with appropriate operational plans at Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi).

In addition, Vietnam Airlines also said that many other domestic and international flights on July 22 may be affected by storm Wipha.
Therefore, the airline recommends that passengers fasten their seat belts throughout the journey, even when the seat belt sign is turned off, to ensure flight safety in complex weather conditions.
According to information from Bamboo Airways, on July 21, due to the impact of the storm, Noi Bai airport had to change the runway. In addition, thunderstorms extending from the southern area of Noi Bai airport to Vinh forced airlines' planes to circle to avoid bad weather.
This causes the flight time of each flight to be extended by 15 to 25 minutes. Therefore, flights returning to Hanoi after 9am on the same day must land later than scheduled to ensure safety.
The Civil Aviation Authority requires airports and regional air traffic management companies to focus all resources on implementing measures to prevent the impact of storms on airport technical infrastructure and aircraft on the apron.
Pay special attention to the condition of the airport's drainage system to ensure that flooding due to heavy rain during and after the storm is avoided, and proactively coordinate and strictly implement storm prevention plans deployed by local authorities.
For the Northern and Central Airports, the Civil Aviation Authority requires proactively issuing documents implementing the instructions of the Ministry of Construction and the Civil Aviation Authority and directly participating in disaster prevention work at airports, performing inspection and supervision tasks according to regulations.
After the storm subsides, units also need to focus resources on immediately performing tasks to bring mining activities back to normal.
However, the management agency also noted that the impact of storm circulation and prolonged heavy rain could cause flooding at airports directly affected by the storm.
Therefore, the Department requires agencies and units in the industry to strictly implement the instructions and fully report so that this unit can promptly grasp information and have further instructions.
