Barcelona lost key player to Al Nassr

Barcelona say goodbye to veteran centre-back Inigo Martinez, who has reached an agreement to join Al Nassr.

Inigo became Ronaldo's teammate.

According to ESPN , the 1991-born player's contract includes a "gentleman clause" that allows him to leave at any time if he receives an offer from a Middle Eastern club. Martinez's previous contract with Barcelona ran until the summer of 2026.

Al Nassr made an offer for Martinez last summer, but then- sporting director Deco convinced the player to stay at Camp Nou. However, after an impressive season under Hansi Flick, where Martinez struck up a strong partnership with young talent Pau Cubarsi and helped the club win a LaLiga-Copa del Rey double, Martinez appears ready for a new chapter in his career.

Although he did not bring in a transfer fee, Martinez's departure is a big loss in terms of skills for Barcelona. He was a mainstay of the defense last season with 46 appearances.

On the other hand, Martinez's departure will help Barca reduce the wage bill, in the context that they have not yet complied with La Liga's 1-1 financial regulations. The reigning La Liga champions will save 12 million euros on the Spanish centre-back's salary, thereby allowing them to register a number of new players, including Marcus Rashford.

For their part, Al Nassr is showing great ambition in the new season when they have recruited Joao Felix and continue to strengthen their squad to realize their dream of winning the championship with Cristiano Ronaldo. On the other hand, Aymeric Laporte will leave Al Nassr to play for Bilbao.
