Overcoming hundreds of kilometers of mountainous roads and dangerous steep passes, on August 7, the representative office of GD&TĐ Newspaper in the North Central region and benefactors were present in My Ly commune ( Nghe An ) to hand over meaningful gifts and share difficulties with people who suffered heavy losses due to floods.
Warmth of human love in the heart of the flood
At the end of July, due to the impact of storm Wipha, prolonged heavy rains caused serious flash floods in many villages of My Ly commune - one of the most difficult highland and border communes of Nghe An province.
According to statistics, the floods caused 219 houses to collapse, be buried, or be completely swept away; many areas of crops and people's properties were swept away by the floods, making the already difficult lives of the people even more difficult.
With the spirit of "helping each other" and the policy of the Editorial Board of GD&TĐ Newspaper, on July 27, the North Central Regional Representative Office organized the Launching Ceremony of the donation program to support people affected by natural disasters in Nghe An.
Responding to the call, many businesses, organizations and philanthropists joined hands to donate and support people in flood-affected areas.
On August 7, at Xieng Tam and Xop Tu villages (My Ly commune), the GD&TĐ Newspaper representative office in the North Central region and benefactors handed over 111 gifts; each gift included: 1 million VND in cash and essential necessities such as rice, instant noodles, fish sauce, new clothes... to 111 households that lost their homes.
Of which, Xieng Tam village received 63 gifts, Xop Tu village received 48 gifts. These are practical and timely gifts to help people solve immediate difficulties and soon stabilize their lives.
Speaking at the gift-giving ceremony, Journalist Nguyen Van Dung, Head of the GD&TĐ Newspaper Representative Office in the North Central region, shared: "Witnessing the losses that the people of My Ly commune had to endure, we are extremely heartbroken. Although these gifts are not of great material value, they contain the sentiments and sharing of the community with the desire to add motivation and warmth to help people overcome this difficult period."
Journalist Nguyen Van Dung hopes that in the coming time, agencies, units and philanthropists nationwide will continue to support and assist people affected by floods in My Ly in particular and Nghe An province in general. Timely support will help families soon stabilize their lives and production.
Receiving the gift from the charity group, Ms. Lu Thi Du (residing in Xieng Tam village, My Ly commune) could not hide her emotion: "My house was completely swept away by the flood, only the foundation remains. For the past few days, the whole family has had to sleep at relatives' houses. We are very happy and grateful to have GD&TĐ Newspaper and other benefactors visit and give us gifts. We will never forget this affection from everyone, our villagers."
Also attending the gift giving ceremony, Mr. Vi Kham Dao, Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of My Ly commune, on behalf of the people, expressed deep gratitude and the golden heart of GD&TĐ Newspaper and the benefactors.
"This valuable help is a great source of motivation for the Party Committee, government and people in the commune to continue their efforts to overcome the consequences of natural disasters and soon bring people's lives back to normal," Mr. Dao shared.
Supporting teachers and students to confidently enter the new school year
Also on August 7, the Education and Training Newspaper Office in the North Central region and benefactors presented 3 gifts to 3 schools in My Ly commune affected by floods.
Of which, 40 million VND was given to My Ly 2 Primary Ethnic Minority School; 30 million VND was given to My Ly 1 Primary Ethnic Minority School and My Ly 2 Kindergarten each.
In addition, the delegation also presented 6 gifts, each gift including: 500,000 VND in cash and some necessities to 6 teachers of My Ly 1 Primary Ethnic Minority School whose houses were swept away by flood.
In the coming time, GD&TĐ Newspaper will continue to call for and donate uniforms, books, and school supplies for students in My Ly commune.
Receiving the gift, Nguyen The Vinh, Principal of My Ly 1 Primary Ethnic Minority School, said that this gift came at the most urgent time, when many students' families are struggling with difficulties and the school is also trying its best to prepare for the new school year 2025-2026.
According to Mr. Vinh, natural disasters not only affect people’s homes and property but also have a major impact on students’ learning. Many students at the school have families that have suffered heavy losses, and the risk of them being deprived and unable to go to school when the new school year is about to begin is very high.
"The school would like to thank GD&TĐ Newspaper and the benefactors for their concern and sharing of difficulties with the people, teachers and students of My Ly commune during this difficult time. The school is committed to using this money for the right purpose and most effectively," said Mr. Vinh.
Leaving My Ly when the afternoon was turning yellow, the images of the smiles of the people and the eager eyes of the students left a deep impression in the hearts of each member of the delegation.
The warmth of humanity is lighting up faith and hope for a brighter future in this difficult borderland.
