Authorities arrest suspect who boasted about having many connections to scam people into giving away their sentences in Gia Lai.

Using the tactic of providing false information about having many connections in judicial agencies in Gia Lai province to deceive people into believing he could help them get their cases dismissed, Nguyen Duc Toan swindled 150 million VND from a citizen.

On October 24th, the Gia Lai Provincial Police Investigation Agency executed an arrest warrant and detained Nguyen Duc Toan (48 years old, residing in Ia Kring Ward, Pleiku City, Gia Lai Province) for investigation into the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

According to initial investigations, Toan was a member of the self-governing group at the Pleiku City night market. In January 2022, Toan provided false information about having many connections in judicial agencies in Gia Lai province, claiming he could help criminals receive lighter sentences.

Believing the information Toàn provided was true, Mr. TVC (residing in Dak Doa district, Gia Lai province) gave Toàn 150 million VND to help him get his case dismissed. After receiving the money, Toàn did not fulfill his promise but instead misappropriated it for personal use. Subsequently, Mr. C. filed a complaint with the police.

The Criminal Investigation Department of the Gia Lai Provincial Police announces that anyone who is a victim related to the suspect Nguyen Duc Toan is requested to contact the Gia Lai Provincial Police for guidance and resolution in accordance with the law.
