India Susanta Nanda, an employee at the Indian Forest Service (IFS), shared a video on May 4 about the process of catching a king cobra hiding under a car.

Catching a king cobra nearly 4.5 m long

The video has been viewed 28,000 times since it was posted on Twitter two days ago. In the video, a professional snake catcher uses his hands and a long stick to pull a king cobra out from under a car. Several people stand nearby to watch the process of catching the snake. The catcher then puts the animal in a long bag and releases it into the forest.

"King cobras are extremely important in the food chain, helping to maintain the balance in nature. This is a nearly 4.5 meter long king cobra, rescued and released into the wild. The entire process was done by trained snake catchers, please do not attempt it yourself. When the rains start, king cobras can be found in all sorts of odd places," said Nanda.

The king cobra ( Ophiophagus hannah ) is the longest venomous snake in the world . Adults typically grow to about 4 m (13 ft) in length, but some can grow to over 5.5 m (18 ft). King cobras are found in India, southern China, and Southeast Asia. They hunt during the day, preying on snakes, lizards, eggs, and small mammals. King cobras typically hunt on the ground, but they can also climb trees and swim in water.

King cobras generally avoid humans but become aggressive when threatened. Their numbers are declining due to habitat loss. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has classified them as vulnerable on its Red List since 2010.
