A New York Times/Siena College poll shows Republicans leading Democrats in Senate races in Montana, Texas, and Florida. Democrats currently hold 51 seats in the Senate. However, with West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin deciding not to seek re-election, Democrats are at risk of losing more seats. The party’s only hope is to maintain a 50-50 split. Meanwhile, Montana Sen. Jon Tester, one of the most troubled Democrats, trails Republican Tim Sheehy, a wealthy businessman and former Navy SEAL, 52 percent to 44 percent. Montana, with a population of about 1.1 million, has seen a huge amount of money poured into this year’s Senate race. According to statistics, more than $265 million has been spent on TV ads related to this race. In Montana, former President Donald Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris by a large margin (57% to 40%). This is similar to the advantage that Republican Governor Greg Gianforte has over Democratic opponent Ryan Busse (57% to 35%). And in Texas, Republican Senator Ted Cruz leads Democratic opponent Colin Allred by a margin of 48% to 44%. In Florida, Republican Senator Rick Scott leads Democratic opponent Debbie Mucarsel-Powell by a margin of 49% to 40%.
