After three days of diverse and engaging activities, on the afternoon of November 5th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with the People's Committee of Lai Chau province, held the closing ceremony of the First Cultural Festival of Ethnic Groups with Populations Under 10,000 and the Lai Chau Tourism-Culture Week 2023.

With the theme "Preserving, promoting, and spreading the traditional cultural identity of ethnic minorities," the festival has contributed to concretizing the goals, tasks, solutions, and strategic breakthroughs in implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, contributing to "Building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of sustainable national development." At the same time, it contributes to strengthening national unity; honoring and promoting the beautiful traditional cultural values ​​of ethnic groups with populations under 10,000 nationwide in particular, and the traditional cultural identity of the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam in general.

During the three days of the festival, many activities held significant political and cultural importance, leaving a positive impression on viewers; they effectively disseminated the unique traditional cultural values ​​of ethnic groups with populations under 10,000 people.

The exhibition space showcasing characteristic cultural products of ethnic groups has highlighted the unique features of each locality through displays and introductions of community culture via artifacts: paintings, photographs, books, brochures; models of artifacts, musical instruments, traditional costumes of ethnic groups, handicrafts, brocade, and local products.

The folk arts festival featured the participation of 9 troupes with nearly 400 artisans and performers, presenting 45 different cultural and artistic performances. The performances were largely presented by amateur artisans and performers, showcasing elaborate preparation, rich content, and the distinct cultural identity of ethnic minorities in various provinces, closely adhering to the festival's theme.

The performances and presentations of excerpts from traditional festivals and cultural rituals of ethnic groups with populations under 10,000 people, meticulously selected and staged by 8 provinces, demonstrated the localities' high regard for preserving the unique traditional cultural identities of their ethnic groups.

The Traditional Craft Showcase left a deep impression on visitors from all over the world through the demonstrations of artisans in the process of creating products from traditional embroidery, weaving, and basketry.

Through the various performances at this year's festival, the organizing committee awarded 31 A prizes, 36 B prizes, and 12 C prizes to the participating delegations.

Regarding sports activities, there was participation from 8 provinces and nearly 200 coaches and athletes. After 3 days of exciting and engaging competitions in various sports, the organizing committee awarded 31 sets of medals in 3 disciplines: stick pushing, crossbow shooting, and tug-of-war.

At the closing ceremony, representatives from the Lai Chau Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism handed over the flag for hosting the 2nd Cultural Festival of Ethnic Groups with Populations Under 10,000 in 2028 to representatives from the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Culture and Sports.

Awards of commendation were presented to collectives and individuals who achieved outstanding results in advising and organizing the Festival.

On this occasion, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded Certificates of Merit to 18 collectives and 5 individuals; the Chairman of the People's Committee of Lai Chau province awarded Certificates of Merit to 29 collectives and 48 individuals for their outstanding achievements in advising and organizing the Lai Chau Tourism-Culture Festival and Week in 2023.
