Hai Phong Children's Hospital said that the unit had just received and treated a dangerous emergency case due to swallowing a button battery.
The patient is a 32-month-old boy who was brought to the hospital by his family immediately after discovering that he had swallowed a toy button battery. Fortunately, the family discovered the problem early and took the child to the hospital about 1 hour after swallowing.

Here, doctors performed an X-ray, the results showed a foreign object stuck in the esophagus.
The emergency endoscopy team quickly and successfully removed the battery. Despite early emergency treatment, through direct observation, the endoscopy team noted an area of corrosion that caused esophageal ulcers.
According to doctors, toy button batteries can cause serious damage in a very short time. Therefore, timely removal of foreign objects helps limit the risk of esophageal perforation, mediastinal infection and other serious complications.
Therefore, doctors recommend that parents keep batteries and battery-powered devices out of reach of children. If you suspect that your child has swallowed a battery, take them to the hospital immediately. Do not induce vomiting because battery damage can occur within minutes, even if the child is taken to the emergency room very soon.
The above case strongly warns about the danger of button batteries and the importance of supervising young children in daily activities.
