On the morning of July 21, the People's Committee of Thanh Binh commune, Da Nang city, held a ceremony to receive the provincial-level relic ranking certificate for the Bat Cave Scenic Area, located in Thanh Binh commune, formerly Tien An commune, Tien Phuoc district, former Quang Nam province.
According to the decision of the People's Committee of Da Nang City (formerly the People's Committee of Quang Nam Province), Bat Cave was ranked as a provincial relic on June 17.
Mr. Duong Duc Lin, Chairman of Thanh Binh Commune People's Committee, said that the recognition of Bat Cave as a relic not only recognizes the unique historical and geological value of this place, but also opens up opportunities for tourism development associated with the conservation of natural resources and revolutionary traditions.
Bat Cave is one of the rare ancient rock outcrops in the Central region, formed from 530 to 158 million years ago, belonging to the Kham Duc and Nui Vu formations, metamorphic rock formations of high geological value.
The rocks here clearly show traces of foliation, micro-folding and tectonic deformation, evidence of the strong movement of the Earth's crust over hundreds of millions of years.
Unlike most other tropical regions where the bedrock is often heavily weathered, Bat Cave retains its pristine state with complete exposed bedrock bands. Therefore, this place is considered an "open-air geological museum", a place to preserve and tell the story of the ancient eras on the planet.
In particular, the terrain here also creates interesting features: from sharp, eroded cliffs that seem to be engraved with ancient characters, to majestic rocks with abstract shapes.
Besides its geological value, Bat Cave also possesses a diverse ecosystem, with natural forests, rich vegetation, and streams such as O O, Vuc Vin, Thanh Cong reservoir... creating a pristine ecological space, close to village life.
Bat Cave can completely become an attractive eco-tourism and educational destination, a place to combine nature exploration, geological exploration, and experiencing indigenous cultural space, Mr. Lin shared.
Not only a natural site, Bat Cave is also a "historical witness" of the two resistance wars against France and the US. During the resistance war against France, this place was the base of revolutionary organizations of Zone V, the Provincial Party Committee and the Tien Phuoc District Party Committee.
QB150 Engineering Workshop also chose Bat Cave as a place to produce weapons, thanks to the abundant source of bat droppings to make gunpowder for the battlefield in Zone V.
During the resistance war against the US, Unit C45 of Tien Phuoc District Military Command continued to choose this place as a base, coordinating with local militia to build forces and organize patrols to protect the base area.
Thanks to its rugged and secluded terrain, Bat Cave became a "steel shield" protecting the activities of revolutionary forces, contributing to the nation's final victory.
With the event being ranked as a provincial relic, the authorities of Thanh Binh commune and Da Nang city are planning to coordinate with specialized sectors to develop a project to preserve and promote the value of Bat Cave in a sustainable manner.
