Hospital does not accept, student is reissued medical degree

(Dan Tri) - The first graduating class of students from the Faculty of Dentistry at the School of Medicine and Pharmacy (Duy Tan University) received a degree in dentistry upon graduation, so they could not find a job.

Some former students majoring in dentistry at the School of Medicine and Pharmacy (Duy Tan University) who just received their graduation certificates last October reported that they studied dentistry but were awarded a dental degree upon graduation.

This makes it difficult for students to find jobs when hospitals do not accept dental degrees.

On the afternoon of November 25, speaking with Dan Tri , Mr. Vo Thanh Hai, Vice Principal of Duy Tan University, said that the school had resolved this incident.

The school has prepared the dental degrees to be reissued to the alumni who have received their dental degrees. Students will be able to receive their degrees starting tomorrow (November 25).

Explaining the incident of "studying to be a dentist, receiving a dental degree", a representative of Duy Tan University said that they did not create the degrees themselves to give to students, but that the above incident occurred because of two "inconsistent" decrees.

Decree 99/2019/ND-CP guiding the implementation of the Law on Higher Education stipulates that degrees for a number of specific specialized training majors in the higher education system include medical doctor, dentist, traditional medicine doctor degrees and a number of other degrees according to separate regulations of the Government.

Decree 96/2023/ND-CP guiding the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment stipulates the basis for practical guidance for medical titles including medical doctors, preventive medicine doctors, traditional medicine doctors and dentists.

The school follows the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , granting dental degrees to students, but when they apply for jobs, the hospital does not accept dental degrees.

After recording this incident, the school immediately worked with the Ministry of Education and Training, agreed on a dental degree and quickly reissued the degree to grant to the student.
