Billboard honors Jungkook (BTS) as the top Kpop artist in the US

According to Straitstimes, Billboard Kpop Artist 100 2024 is the first chart of Kpop artists published by the American music publication, to commemorate the launch of Billboard Korea magazine in May and its first issue in June.

The chart is based on artists' performance on two Billboard charts in 2023 - the Hot 100 (for songs) and the Billboard 200 (for albums). Touring data is also included to demonstrate overall popularity and success.

Jungkook, 26 years old, the youngest member of Kpop group BTS, was honored by Billboard at No. 1.

Jungkook officially debuted solo with the single “Seven” in collaboration with American rapper Latto, in July 2023.

Not only did Seven hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 upon its release, the infectious single also topped the Billboard Global 200 for seven weeks. It was also the No. 1 Global Song of the Summer and won Top Global K-Pop Song at the Billboard Music Awards.

Proving that he is not a one-hit wonder, Jungkook has had two more songs enter the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, which are “3D” (featuring Jack Harlow) released in September 2023 and “Standing Next To You” released in November 2023, both reaching No. 5.

By the time Jungkook’s solo album “Golden” was officially released on November 3, 2023, he was already a bona fide superstar in the U.S. “Golden” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, with the biggest sales week for a K-pop solo artist.

Other BTS members also made it onto the Billboard Kpop Artist 100 2024 chart, along with members of many other groups such as Stray Kids, Fifty Fifty, NewJeans, Seventeen, Blackpink, Le Sserafim, TXT…
