Following the direction of the People's Committee of Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province, on May 2, the island communes of Nhon Ly and Nhon Hai stopped the operation of jet skis and canoes without certificates of technical safety and environmental protection inspection, and inland waterway vehicles without inspection or registration, operating in the wrong area or on the wrong route.
In the directive document dated May 1, Quy Nhon City People's Committee requested the People's Committees of Nhon Ly, Nhon Hai, and Nhon Chau communes to notify relevant organizations and individuals in the management area to stop all jet ski and canoe activities that do not meet operating conditions from May 2 until further instructions are issued.
The city also requested the above 3 communes to coordinate with functional forces to organize inspections of conditions according to regulations to ensure safety in inland waterway traffic activities carrying tourists and people during the remaining peak days of the April 30 - May 1 holiday.
In the announcement dated May 2, the People's Committee of Nhon Ly commune strictly prohibits jet skis, passenger canoes or exploitation in any form on the sea of Nhon Ly commune from May 2 until there is a new directive from the competent authority.

The above moves are aimed at ensuring the safety of residents and tourists after a jet ski in the Hon Kho beach area (Nhon Hai commune, Quy Nhon city) lost control and crashed onto the shore, killing an 8-year-old child and seriously injuring another child.
Specifically, at around 10:30 a.m. on May 1, Mr. LVL (37 years old, residing in Hai Nam village, Nhon Hai commune) was driving a jet ski along the coast of Hon Kho island when the vehicle got caught in a rope tied to a banana buoy with another jet ski.
Mr. L.'s jet ski's throttle got stuck, causing the jet ski to lose control and crash into the shore, hitting four children, including K. (8 years old) and N. (14 years old), residing in Vinh Tuy ward, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi . K. died due to severe injuries, N. was seriously injured and was receiving intensive treatment at the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit of Binh Dinh General Hospital. The other two children suffered minor injuries.
On the same afternoon, Colonel Pham Truong Son, Political Commissar of the Binh Dinh Provincial Border Guard Command, directed the Nhon Hai Border Control Station to stop all jet skis and canoes transporting passengers in Nhon Hai Commune, Quy Nhon City.
