Strengthening the organization, taking care of women's rights
Implementing the guidance of the National Committee for the Advancement of Women in Vietnam, every year, the Provincial People's Committee organizes a ceremony to launch the Month of Action for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence. In addition to the provincial launching ceremony, towns, cities and districts all organize communication activities that attract a large number of interested viewers.
Through the assessment of the methods of operation of women's unions at all levels, they have been increasingly innovated to suit the actual situation; many new, creative and effective ways have emerged, thereby creating conditions to help women develop the economy, reduce poverty sustainably, and build increasingly prosperous, progressive, happy and civilized families. Unions at all levels have also organized many activities to raise social awareness of the role, position and potential of women and gender equality.
Mr. Trinh Tan Tai, Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, proposed that in the coming time, central agencies should pay attention to directing sectors to coordinate to achieve gender equality goals in all fields.
In 2022, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs coordinated with the Departmentof Education and Training, the Department of Information and Communications, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Provincial Labor Federation, the Provincial Women's Union, the Provincial Farmers' Association, and the Provincial Youth Union to promote the implementation of gender equality and prevention of gender-based violence for people in the province.
Implement and distribute 53,100 leaflets to disseminate concepts, regulations, ways to handle and prevent gender-based violence to the community in the province. Advise the Provincial People's Committee to organize activities in response to the Month of Action for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in 2022, including: Organizing a provincial launching ceremony and guiding the organization of a launching ceremony and a district-level communication campaign; organizing a seminar to promote gender equality for the Committee for the Advancement of Women at all levels; implementing propaganda activities through newspapers, radio, banners, and communication products.
As a result, the Province has issued a Plan to implement the National Strategy on Gender Equality and a Plan to implement the Program on Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence for the period 2021 - 2025; at the same time, it has consolidated the Provincial Committee for the Advancement of Women and issued the Working Regulations of the Committee in the new period, creating a basis for gender equality work to be carried out smoothly and consistently.
The province has implemented many propaganda activities to increase the rate of female participation in politics. As a result, the rate of female National Assembly deputies and female People's Council deputies at all three levels in Binh Duong province has increased compared to the previous term and exceeded the set target. Specifically, the rate of female National Assembly deputies in the province increased by 8.89% compared to the previous term; the rate of female People's Council deputies at all three levels reached over 31%; the rate of female participation in Party committees of councils at all levels reached over 30%.
The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs organized a contest to learn and disseminate laws on social work in Binh Duong province.
However, in recent times, although the awareness of leaders at all levels, cadres, civil servants, public employees and people of all walks of life about gender equality has been significantly raised, gender prejudice still exists. Many women are still self-conscious, content with their lot, and do not dare to fight for equality with men in social and family fields. Many men are still prejudiced, hindering women's efforts. In addition, some agencies and units have not really paid attention to this work. Currently, cadres working on gender equality at all levels hold many concurrent jobs, and cadres often change, especially at the commune level, causing difficulties for activities. Although the network of collaborators has been established in all areas and hamlets, some places have not operated effectively.
Stop domestic violence
According to Ms. Huynh Thi Thuy Phuong, Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union, the conference on gender equality, prevention and response to gender-based violence in 2023 as well as the dissemination of laws to the grassroots level that the union at all levels has carried out in the past time has contributed to raising awareness, capacity and responsibility of cadres, members, women and the community in preventing and responding to gender-based violence. At the same time, this is also a way to effectively implement the work of preventing and responding to gender-based violence; preventing violence from occurring, helping victims of gender-based violence to be detected, intervened and supported in a timely manner, contributing to eliminating gender inequality and ending violence.
“The delegates who listen to the propaganda sessions will continue to be reporters and propagandists at the activities of local women’s groups and branches. Once we all contribute our voices and meaningful actions, gender equality will be achieved and domestic violence will be far away,” said Ms. Huynh Thi Thuy Phuong, Vice President of the Provincial Women’s Union.

The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has recommendations and proposals for the coming time, Central agencies should pay attention to directing sectors to coordinate to implement gender equality goals in all fields. In particular, it is necessary to integrate and include the indicators of each goal of the National Strategy on Gender Equality into the reporting requirements of each corresponding sector and the appropriate time for synthesizing reports to facilitate data collection, reporting and evaluation.
