Strengthening knowledge connectivity, promoting gender equality in Vietnam

(Chinhphu.vn) - On October 8, in Hanoi, the four Embassies of Canada, New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland in Hanoi coordinated with the Vietnam Women's Museum to organize the workshop "Women leaders: Overcoming barriers".

The event was organized to celebrate Vietnamese Women's Day on October 20th, aiming to raise awareness about gender equality and promote dialogue on strategies to enhance women's participation in leadership roles.

With the message " Overcoming Barriers, " the workshop also aims to inspire women to identify and unleash their potential, overcome social prejudices, and pursue their passions.

The workshop was attended by G4 Ambassadors, the Director and representatives of the Vietnam Women's Museum, and more than 100 delegates from various fields, including representatives from Vietnamese and international agencies and organizations, as well as students from universities in Hanoi .

In her opening remarks on behalf of the G4 group, Ms. Hilde Solbakken, Ambassador of Norway to Vietnam, affirmed that gender equality is not only a goal but also a foundation for peace , prosperity, and sustainable development. According to the Ambassador, this workshop is a testament to the power of cooperation and shared commitment to empowering women to lead, innovate, and inspire.

"By sharing stories and experiences, we can break down barriers and build a more inclusive society where women's voices are heard and valued," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Director of the Vietnam Women's Museum.

The workshop also brought together four speakers who are exemplary female leaders: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Deputy Director of the Diplomatic Academy; Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duong, Master's Degree holder, President of EY Vietnam Consulting Co., Ltd.; Ms. Dao Ngoc Anh, PhD, Founder and President of Detech Coffee; and Ms. Trang Nguyen, PhD, Founder and Director of WildAct Vietnam.

Speakers shared their journeys of overcoming gender barriers and stereotypes, leading with clear goals, and inspiring women to thrive. Their stories spanned a wide range of fields – from peace, security, and environmental protection to entrepreneurship and social impact – showcasing the transformative role of women leaders in the modern era.

The workshop was also attended and featured a presentation by Pauline Tamesis, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, who emphasized the importance of international cooperation and the UN's commitment to promoting gender equality in Vietnam and globally.

In a discussion moderated by the Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam, Thomas Gass, the New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam, Caroline Beresford; Associate Professor Bui Thi An, President of the Hanoi Association of Women Intellectuals; and four female speakers exchanged views on important topics such as: barriers to women's leadership roles, the role of men in promoting gender equality, differences between the public and private sectors, and international experiences in this field.

In his concluding remarks, Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Jim Nickel emphasized the importance of gender equality in building a just, prosperous, and sustainable society. The Ambassador also reaffirmed the strong commitment of the G4 Embassy group to working with the Vietnamese Government to promote the rights and leadership roles of women and girls.
