On the evening of December 12, 2025, the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Vietnam held the EU-Vietnam Sustainable Design Award (EVSDA) 2025 ceremony at the Temple of Literature - National University ( Hanoi ).

This year's award theme is inspired by the natural elements that are key symbols in the EU's Strategic Communications Campaign, including: Wind representing creativity and uniqueness; Water representing adaptability and practicality; and the Sun representing sustainability and long-term value.

This approach not only connects professional criteria but also helps the public understand how design can contribute to addressing the challenges of climate change while improving the quality of daily life.

Within the event space, the exhibition area showcased 79 finalist entries across four categories: Architecture, Product Design, Communication Design, and Breakthrough Initiatives. These entries not only celebrated the aesthetics of the designs but also conveyed the message that design can be a driving force for significant societal change.

According to the organizers, the designs demonstrated an environmentally friendly approach and a clear circular economy mindset (photo by the organizers).

Each category will select one outstanding project to receive a Special Prize. Four winning designers will receive a one-week stay in a European country, sponsored by the Embassies of the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Italy.

Speaking about the significance of the event, Mr. Julien Guerrier, Ambassador of the European Union to Vietnam, shared: “Through the Global Gateway Strategy, the EU is strongly committed to cooperating with Vietnam on its green transition journey – not only in the fields of energy, infrastructure, or policy, but also in the cultural and creative sectors. Because sustainable development is not just a technological challenge; it is a transformation of the whole society. A journey that requires us to reshape habits, reimagine spaces, redesign products, and reshape lifestyles.”

He added: “From this perspective, the Vietnamese design community is undergoing an impressive transformation. We are witnessing an increasing number of environmentally friendly approaches, a clearer expression of circular thinking, bold experiments with indigenous materials, and a spirit of willingness to work together to address climate and social issues through design. This year’s entries – from architecture, product design, communication design to groundbreaking initiatives – show that sustainable development is no longer an add-on. It is becoming a core mindset. A foundation. A shared value that we all strive for.”

The EU-Vietnam Sustainable Design Award (EVSDA) is an initiative under the EU's Strategic Communications and Public Diplomacy Project (SCPD). EVSDA was created to honor outstanding Vietnamese designers who use the power of creativity to promote green lifestyles, sustainable consumption, and development in harmony with the environment.

Through professional evaluation, public engagement, and international collaborations, EVSDA 2025 affirms the role of innovation as a crucial driver for sustainable development in Vietnam. Simultaneously, the award serves as a bridge connecting European and Vietnamese values, highlighting innovative ideas and communities that are contributing to shaping a more sustainable future for Vietnam.
