Binh Thuan develops green tourism

After nearly 30 years of development, the strength of Binh Thuan tourism is beach resort services with pristine white sand beaches.

In order to develop sustainably and protect the environment, Binh Thuan is actively shifting to a green tourism model as an inevitable direction. However, according to Mr. Nguyen Minh, Vice Chairman of Binh Thuan Provincial People's Committee, in recent years the locality has had policies and businesses have been promoted, but the progress of greening has not been as expected.

The beauty of Binh Thuan sea is an advantage for the locality to attract tourists in the green tourism development strategy.

Mr. Bui The Nhan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Thuan province, informed that tourism enterprises have focused on investing in facilities in the direction of saving energy and minimizing environmental impacts. For example, accommodation establishments use environmentally friendly materials, minimize the use of plastic, prioritize green areas in design... "However, the locality is still limited in infrastructure supporting green tourism such as environmentally friendly public transport, green-standard accommodation establishments as well as financial support and incentives for green tourism enterprises" - Mr. Nhan stated the reality.

According to economist Dr. Tran Du Lich, to develop green tourism, the first thing is to use renewable energy, then respect nature and preserve local culture. “Respect for local culture and fairness in the tourism community is very important because tourism cannot be developed without local people benefiting from this activity,” Mr. Lich noted.

Suggesting further directions, Dr. Tran Du Lich said that it is necessary to change the awareness and actions of enterprises in parallel with placing tourism development solutions in the overall solution of transforming the local economy for sustainable growth. “Binh Thuan needs to transform its economy in general. In particular, green transformation and digital transformation are the overarching orientations for the next 10 years; taking green transformation in tourism first, creating the foundation for transforming the entire economy according to green and digital criteria” – Dr. Lich said.
