Faced with the serious coastal erosion occurring at the border between Phu Thuan commune, Phu Vang district and Thuan An ward, Hue city, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province has just issued a decision to declare a natural disaster emergency.
According to the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, due to the consecutive impacts of natural disasters in September to October 2024, especially heavy rains, strong winds at sea, big waves, high tides, and rising water on October 19 to 21, landslides occurred in the coastal section of Phu Thuan commune, Phu Vang district and Thuan An ward, Hue city.

Coastal erosion here occurs over a length of about 1,000m, eating 70m to 100m into the mainland, posing a safety risk to inter-commune roads, tourism service businesses and local households.
The seriously eroded coastline is about 300m long, located on the border between Phu Thuan commune and Thuan An ward. Here, the sea has eroded deep into the mainland, destroying the sidewalk and knocking down casuarina trees along the internal road in the beach area. The erosion continues to grow rapidly, expanding in length and continuing to erode deep into the mainland.
Faced with the emergency situation of coastal landslides occurring in the above area, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province requested the leaders of the People's Committee of Phu Vang district and the People's Committee of Hue city to urgently mobilize forces and means to coordinate, regularly monitor the landslide situation at the scene, and promptly take response measures.
The above localities are assigned to mobilize legal resources according to regulations to handle and limit landslides, ensuring absolute safety for the lives and property of tourists and people.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province also assigned the implementation of warning signs, delimiting dangerous areas, arranging guards, guiding people to ensure safety in the area; strengthening information and communication so that tourists know about the risk of coastal erosion and proactively take preventive and response measures.
The Management Board of Agricultural Construction Investment Projects and Rural Development of Thua Thien Hue province was directed to urgently develop an emergency plan to prevent and combat landslides on the above mentioned coastal section.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province to urgently appraise, agree on plans, and research and establish a comprehensive project to prevent landslides and erosion to protect the coast for long-term stability, ensure aesthetics and exploit the value of the beach sustainably, serve people's lives, develop services, tourism and the local economy.
Faced with the serious coastal erosion at the border between Phu Thuan commune and Thuan An ward, in recent days, Thua Thien Hue province has mobilized hundreds of people from the police, military, other forces and local people to urgently reinforce the eroded coastal section. Hundreds of cubic meters of rocks and other materials have been unloaded and transported by the forces to build a temporary embankment to prevent erosion of this coastal section.
